What is the best way to handle this situation? College problems.?

I've forgotten to attend this class a few times. The professor who teaches this class is the head of the department. This class is part of my major.

My problem is that a few months ago, I was in a situation that made me incredibly uncomfortable. This situation included the same students who attend this same class. They didn't do anything on purpose, but I just get very anxious in certain situations. People who are linked to that memory make me uncomfortable. I've been making one excuse after another and it's killing me. He probably thinks I'm a jerk. I didn't know why I was constantly forgetting until now.
How should I explain my situation to my professor without sounding immature or that I'm talking to my psychologist?
How can I make it up to him? I'm afraid to face him.

5 min ago, i have no clue why but i stared tearing up and in the moment i felt complete peace and harmony within, but then it left. that second was so wonderful but also confusing, why did i feel like that? if it was peace why was i tearing up? and also why did it last for 1 min or so? what do you guys think? i want your opinion on what happened to me and also about inner peace and harmony, how do one accomplish that? thank u
