I'm just putting forth a "devil's advocate" kind of question here:

If same-sex marriages became legal, then should / would a person enjoy the rsame right to marry his brother? Or father?

By the way, I'm a happily married heterosexual... :)

...Just wondering about what same-sex marriages are leading to...

You make a valid point.
If this anything goes thinking continues, who knows where it will go.
It is all about "equal rights" right?
If men can "marry" each other, and lesbians think they can be "married" then it should be made legal for someone to marry his cat, parakeet, dog, horse, whatever.
Yes, even marry your blood relative.
It is insane.
But this is what happens when the Canon the Bible is ignored.

same-sex marriages do not produce genetic offspring. The only thing that really is in the way of these unions are religious views, but incest within your immediate family would allow for no variation, where one genetic mistake would weed itself out with variance. Although the genetic defects would not take hold for a few generations, the outcomes could be horrific. Because scientists know this I really don't think that same sex marriage would lead to legalizing incest.

See the item on the "like treatment principle" noted in a previous question asked.

Given the proven threat (I cannot immediately think of a better word) to children born from a union of siblings, a relevant difference exists between this union and one between homosexuals. Of course, you might argue, what if they commit to not bearing children or were infertile?

This is simply impractical. Can you imagine a law that allows siblings to marry only under the legal obligation NOT to bear children? How could this be enforced? Or punishable?

Legally there is no place in the USA that would allow it right now. In the West the closest they allow is 1st cousins, and in the East, it's first cousin once removed or second cousin.

That's one of the arguments against gay marriages. If marriage is only a contract and an agreement between two individuals, shouldn't anyone be allowed to marry, including siblings?

I don't agree with the same sex marriage. However for one to marry his/her sibling or father could cause many defects. It's called incest. I understand what your hypothetical situation is saying and I don't agree to either the incest or the same sex marriage. I don't know if you believe in God or not but he puts marriage as a man and a woman, I don't believe that he would want us going around marrying our family either. Now God does also say to obey the laws of the land... only after his laws. I believe that God put man and woman together to be partners for life, not woman and woman not man and man but woman and man. It is not my place to judge, that's up to the almighty himself. Those that choose to go against God's word will have to answer for themselves. "Devil's advocate" question is right, you're wanting to open a big can of worms....lol.

I believe sodomite (yes, that's what God calls "homosexuals" in the King James Bible) marriages will lead to a whole bunch of sinful, crazy nonsense: like having multiple spouses, marrying your relatives, children, etc. Things are bad and they will surely get worse down the road....not just with marriage either.

Why would someone want to do that?

Being married to the same sex is that person's right. We should not judge someone because of their marital status, but family relationships are different from romantic relationships.

Please try to learn more tolerance for gays and lesbians. They are, after all, people too, and who they are as people is more important than the sexual relationships they prefer.

Incest in breeding (M/F) is illegal in many countries because of the high probability of genetic defects - which was evident long before people knew what genes where. But as same sex couples can not breed, then the moral argument regarding the children doesn't exist.

Well two gay people aren't going to make a child with a deformed leg and a mental disability, you and your sister will. Whereas I completely support the structures to help people with disabilities and value their contributions to our society, it is in everyone's best interest to do things to have healthy children able to live independent lives, and that becomes much harder when you and your sister are making babies together. It really has little to do with morals and much as it has to do with me paying to help your children for the rest of their lives.

If same sex marriage was legal, it would still be illegal for you to marry your brother; as protection for any children you may produce incest is illegal.
