As a former college instructor, I can tell you that it's better for you to speak to your professor as soon as possible (or write a note, as another person suggested). I would be sympathetic to your situation if you were my student, and I wouldn't expect a lot of detail or anything on why you weren't comfortable around some of your classmates.
The other thing to think about before you speak to the professor is how you think you can deal with this problem. Continuing to miss the class is obviously not a good solution, and it's probably too late to drop it. What can the professor do to accommodate you? Would it help if you were seated farther away from the people you aren't comfortable with? If there are group projects or discussions, would you rather not work together with them? Think about this in advance and be prepared to suggest solutions to your professor. Believe me, your teacher will be impressed with your maturity and intelligence if you do this.
Another tip is that if you really feel like you can't be in the class anymore, try to make arrangements for getting notes and assignments from another student. Don't ask the professor to keep you updated on what went on in class. Professors just hate that -- it's a huge pet peeve.
Good luck and don't be afraid!

You have one of two choices talk to your professor or don't talk to your professor. I would choose the former if I were you. However, if you do talk to your professor you better have a pretty good reason as to why those people make you uncomfortable and why you didn't come to the professor and discuss the issue right away. First of all, if you do go to the professor admit your guilt and say you haven't been attending class on purpose. Your statement above is contradictory... I forgot is the reason in the first part and then the second part is oh yeah, these people in my class make me feel uncomfortable. I hope you understand why this makes your story sound like BS. If you claim is valid, you professor will understand. Remember, professors are people to. The only thing against you at this point is that you have waited to inform the professor of the situation. I would find a way to argue this.
GOOD LUCK!

Anxiety can be very disabling. Trust that your professor has some insight and will understand that you have a challenging situation.
You could ask for help, or what is often helpful is to make a suggestion of what would help you.
Even if the action by your classmates was unintentional, it might be helpful for the proessor to know how you were affected.
Good luck.

Professors deal with this type of problem quite often. Don't waste anymore time hiding from him. Explain the problem and ask how you can get back on track in his class. Chances are very good he will understand and help.

You just described it very well and with great maturity. Explain it in the same way to your proff. You are not required to go into any greater detail, just explain that you have some issues that trigger very troubling memories with regard to some of the students in this class and you are working through it.

I think that you should go to your professor holding your head high and tell him what is happening. You do not actually have to give him every detail but try it. I bet he will work with you. that's what they are there for. Good luck and God Bless!

The best way to overcome a fear is to face it.
Go! Face it. Look it straight in the eye.and know that you are
bigger and stronger then this problem.

hide it sucks trying to talk to any college professor because they are not understanding. They expect that college is the only thing in your life. and you should drop everything for that teacher

Love and faith are the cardinal principles for redeeming human life. My Life is My Message. I love everyone; that is My very nature. All are Mine whether they call Me by this name or any other name or by no name at all! Divinity is the primal source of universal love. Faith in Divinity is the key to develop such love. The way of love alone can transform man and hence the world.
