Note: I put this in the philosophy section, and not the religion section, for a reason. I'm not looking for proclamations of faith, or for stories about how wonderful your chosen god is. I want to know why, after careful reflection and introspection, you chose the specific religion you did. There are so many out there, what led you to the one you ultimately picked?

"Where no counsel is, the people fell, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."

This is the motto of the Israeli "Mossad". Why would they pick this and what does it mean?

We live, but most of us don't learn how to live usefully.
We die, but most of us don't learn how to die happily.
And we do thousands of other things withoput learning why and how.
Most of us are continuously moaning from birth to death, and we don't learn to enjoy the exact meanings of suffering.
Wishing to receive funny answers suitable to these funny questions.

I am so sick of this course I am taking in Critical Reasoning. Some people are just naturally philosophical, but not me. I have to write 3 critical essays based on articles in my text. I need to identify and evaluate by a range of criteria that I have read about (but not retained) throughout the duration of this course. I should probably just get off of Yahoo Answers and do what I gotta do to get it done! I just don't know how to get started!

I was thinking about this the other day. Why does it seem that something happened to all of the knowledge and understanding that these civilizations had? Why does it seem that they were on some whole other level of universal, spiritual, and conscious understanding than the humans of today? Could it be because we are focused on different things or rather that we hold different things as important to us? They seemed so in touch with the universe, the spiritual world, and with who they were within both of these realms and we seem to be creating more and more gadgets and institutions that take us away from that. What do you all think?

I asked a question a little while ago about fairy tale sand fantasy and why we don't strive to make them real if we like them so. I received many interesting answers but they al centre red around one central theme, we live in the 'real' world.

While our universe has laws of physics (Chaos Theory, Small World Effect, Thermodynamics, Random Chance, etc.) that prevent the more outrageous parts of fairy tales and fantasy like magic spells, magic creatures, destiny, etc. We are still capable of shaping the world to the way that we wish it to be, this one of the defining characteristics of humans.

So if we can shape the world to our will and if we have our fantasies of what the perfect world would be, why are we unable to make it happen?

AND

What is it about us as humans that makes us make the world the way that it is today?

Serious answers only please.

Please don't say that it is the fault of money, those in power, etc. because we have the ability to change it.

I've been pondering this all day because just thinking on how much fighting has taken place because of religion.
Also thinking that if we put as much time and energy into saving our planet something that we See, Touch, and hear everyday and provides us food, water and shelter, as we do "Spreading the Word" and Worshiping a God that cannot be seen you cannot touch and cannot be heard. but of cousre I guess theres no profit in renewable energy.
