In naval history, "first rate" for a ship meant carrying a hundred guns or more, so we're probably looking a rather different scale for measurement, even though that's where the term derived.
I'm perhaps not enough of a "big gun" to be first rate.
I'm not quite sure about how well I do sailing close to the wind and I probably could use a better compass.
Very stable in a storm, though.

Just a tad below first rate but not much below unless I start comparing myself to others like Mother Theresa and Brother Timothy and the Buddha,Jesus, Moses and the guy who founded the Salvation Army or Martin Luther (the first one) or Martin Luther King for that matter or Linus Salk or Louis Pasteur or Madame Currie or....... what the hell, I guess I am second rate after all.

What is a first rate human being? Answer, there is none.
Everyone is bad at something and good at others. I would consider myself to be a ok person mostly, but I aren't good at spelling and aren't fast. We aren't all good at everything.

I think it would be arrogant to think of myself in this way.
Its all subjective isnt it? I think to admit failures and weaknesses makes you a better person, especially if you have genuinely leant from your mistakes.
Therefore its not a question of being first rate, its more to do with doing the very best with what you are given, flaws and all.
Therefore you can be first rate without being perfect.......so therefore the answer to this statement can in fact contradict it!!!

I am not only first rate, I am God's chosen. I am the most important person in the world, the best I might add, and I am second in command to God himself.

what, and theres a secon rate and third rate and fourth and fifth and sixth?? maybe i don't believe in that. we're just here beause we can be here, because the environment we live in is perfect for our survival. what, some one can survive, can live.. BETTER than others? is living a talent or skill that you can excell in? seriously, im alive, you're obviously alive.. etcetera.
(but im not sure if i answered your question....)

i would say yes,,, i contemplate and think about things, not just accept the norm,,,,, sometimes i agree with those around me, sometimes not,,,,,,,, i feel i continue to grow, learn, question as i go threw my life,,,,
i try to be the best human being i can be,, dont always succeed, but i try, i dont always succeed at trying, but i try to try,,,, and i think that makes anyone first-rate!

I suppose you mean like Gandhi or something? Not me. Such appellations are meaningless and without value. I know that sounds radical, but it's truth.
