Yes we are doomed to extinction and it's the male's fault. A little trick with DNA. Every time a new generation is born, the DNA gets a little, well, messed up. Each species' DNA decays at a different rate, but it all decays (the male contribution is the one that decays). Studies have shown that human DNA decay rates will get us past the sun burning out, but it will not last forever. In all known cases, this haunting presence of doom has never been the culprit of extinction, either. Most of the time something else gets you long before this does.

We could clone, or change the DNA, but then we wouldn't be exactly "human" anymore, would we?

All species are doomed to extinction, the larger and more complex, the less their time arc on the planet.

Humans seem to have gone through several cycles of near-extinction. I think the cave-man period was the result of the last nuclear war. . . .

The more pollution we generate, especially from electricity-producing plants, the more autistic and less social our species will become. Self-destruction will certainly follow.

"Doomed" hints at pre-determination, which make no common sense. It's an astronomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp. It's an astronomical certainty a planet killing asteroid will once again strike the earth. It's a high probability that super volcanoes, accidental nuclear launches, world-wide pandemics, and global warming will wreak havoc on mankind.

The problem with saying 'doomed' does not take into account man's ingenuity to avoid the aforementioned calamities. Will we have the technology to escape to another planet in another solar system to avoid our planet's sure death?? probably, afterall billions of years is a long time to advance.

Yes, the quality of being human will eventually die. We will eventually become another species, or more specifically intelligent machines will probably cause us to go extinct, maybe through absorbtion.

However, life could easily continue here on Earth. It would take some incredible stupidity to destroy the entire race.

Depends on just what extinction event you have in mind. If nothing else gets us before, the sun will eventually nova and incinerate the earth. The only way to avoid that would be for our descendants to have left earth and populated a planet around some other star.

Don't be surprised when ultimate goodness grabs humanity by the tail and wraps her arms around all. Balance...There has been human suffering for many many many years. It is high time for the tides to change as goodness on great global scale is just in the offing...

Yes, and no. We will eventually die out, and it will be our fault. The only variable is when and how. Why is easy- because we are here. Nuclear war, bio war, massed peace leading to exploding population leading to huge global warming leading to disaster leading to us being gone. Whatever. We are doomed, eventually. For now, hang tight.

great question - but death is an illusion. We are all fundamentally energy, and that energy composes our physical bodies. To avoid physical death, become one with the rest of the universe. :) That way, you'll see that there is no "death" and, for that matter, no "self." Hope that helps.
