i've been looking online at definitions and stuff but i thought it would be more valuable if i heard what other people perceive it to be. how would you explain existentialism to someone who knows nothing about it (me)? lol.

any input is greatly appreciated :)

If there were a great war would you sacrifice the few to save the many, and kill people to save other thousands?

You die and you are brought before your maker. He/she can be in whatever form you imagine. They have one question for you. Which do you think you deserve, heaven, hell, or reincarnation, and why?

The movie Abre Los Ojos or Open Your Eyes (Original of Vanilla Sky) is clearly a philosophical movie. What themes does it have in it, and to what areas of philosophy does it apply?
What proof is there from the film?
Should it be shown in a philosophy class?

Also, how does the ending differ in Vanilla Sky? (I haven't seen it)

What is self but a collection of experiences and other forms of societal programming? When people say you should be yourself it is essentially saying you should be who they, the people, have created. Society, friends, and family have programmed you. So for them to say just be yourself it is like they are saying don’t be yourself, be who we have made you to be. So I ask you, how can one be themselves? What is self?

I live on Long Island, N.Y. right now it is 50 degrees, it supposed to get up to around 55 today. Today is January 3rd, what the hell? It hasn't snowed here once, its doubtful that it will even snow this winter. Santa cant get around in snow, did we kill him?

In biblical times, women who were twelve years of age would be married with children of their own, but in today's age, a twelve year old is considered "too young" to have a child.

Who decides what a child is, and when is one no longer considered a "child"?

And I'm looking for more than a simple answer, like "When they hit puberty". A person can hit puberty in elementary school, but they still hold their mothers' hands when crossing the street. They still complain and throw tantrums when they've already gone through menstruation.

I'm looking for insightful answers, please!

What does this Yeats poem mean? I don't get it at all! Why would someone spread their dreams under your feet, then beg you not to trample on them? I know that's only human, but it's also, sadly, asking for trouble.

Aedh Wishes for the Clothes of Heaven
Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
