None of the "proofs" that seem to suggest there is a God are enough to suggest that this God must also be perfect as well. (Perfection would imply God is solely good)
Anything saying God is supremely good comes from belief, which is not bassed on any facts, and more often than not completely illogical.
Anyone can write 'God is good' or 'God is evil' in a book, but this doesn't mean that it is true.
I do not think, supposing that there is a God, that God has to, necessarily, be any of these things. But people will come up with various reasons to show that their belief is the right one, such as God is good and the Devil evil. It's something that covers everything, all bases, or 'free will'. Ultimately, whether there is a God or not, the world will be the same. Either things are the way they are because there is no God, or there is a God and he allows free will.

I feel that God is neither good nor evil. God is the definition of existence. There is no embodiment of God. Everything, I believe, was made out of pure energy (God) and everything has its polar opposite. However, the principles of yin and yang must be applied. You can't have one without the other and there is no pure dark or pure light for example. If God were good, you see, why then would he have created or allowed evil. He should have no concept of evil. And as God should have no equal opposites, again he should claim neutrality and the source of everything. God is god and anything can happen and only we as humans can change. This is because we are God. Everything is God. God is everything. God is life, God is emotion & spirit and God is choice.
A side note to all you religious folk. Religion is what I believe to be fairytale legend. I do not doubt its power. (crusades, war in Iraq/ muslim jihadi)- just to name a few things. The mind will believe what it wants to and follows in the path of its belief, but how many wealthy people are religious and then how many religious live in poverty. WHile religion may help many people to find their way and give them hope, to me, religion is arbitrary.

'Good' cannot even begin to describe God.
Evil exists as the polar opposite of God.
I do not in any way understand how someone can totally write off the existance of God and his power. Look at your body, the intricanctness of ourselves, why it has life, and why are you here.
Then look at our world. The oceans, the atmosphere, the planets, the sun and everything, so delicate that total destruction is only a meteor away.
Is this all an accident? A world created and developed by billions and billions of coincidences? I think not, I know not.
There is a power above us all, that is good and loving. Otherwise the planet would be inhabited by non-thinking beings, or not here FOR our existance.

In some sense, perhaps.
What I mean is, if you "believe" in a supreme being, then you believe that at some point in time, he set everything in motion, meaning that he also "created" all the laws of physics.
Ok, so except for those stories such as Moses parting the sea, which would seem to suggest that God can (or can allow/endow humans to) GO AGAINST the laws of physics, once those laws were set in motion, there's a lot of random cause and effect going on in the universe.
In other words, with respect to your question of whether he's "good or evil," you have also heard the endless questions,"why do good things happen to bad people," and/or "why do bad things happen to good people."
BECAUSE -> we do not have total control over our lives, and something can fall out of the sky onto your head at any time, or a bad person can get away with a crime.
Some seem to think that God has a hand in what unfolds on a daily basis. I think he set it in motion, like a gigantic top, and sat back and watched to see what we silly humans did with our "free will."

I know He is good, and He does exist. Like that santa movie seeing isnt believing, believing is seeing. But, He made us and He gave us free will. So to the person who claims God is like Hitler, God is not a dictator He gave us a choice. He know what is best for us but He wants us to discover that on our own, which is part of life. And He gave his son for us so that we might live and I dont think that would be something Hitler would do, giving of his family to give us life. God, is real and He is good, not evil. Would someone evil answer your prayers, send his son to save us, write a book giving us direction(the Bible), and be totally selfless and unconditionally loving us all the time. No. God is Good all the time. All the time God is Good!

Here's the Jewish point of view:
we say a prayer twice a day- the "Shma". It's the heart of Judaism.
"Hear, {=understand} Israel- G-d is our lord, G-d is one."
Rabbi's explain: *g-d is used in merciful contexts (good)
*lord is used in harsher justice contexts (which would be the bad)
So what this prayer means, basically, is that both the good and the bad come from the same g-d. Not like idol-worshipers or ancient Greeks, who believed that there was a good g-d, and there was a bad g-d.
But this "Shma" prayer goes to an even deeper level. Notice how it repeats the word "g-d". Not g-d is the lord as one, but rather it says: g-d is the lord, g-d is one.
Conclusion: the good and the bad are both for the best! Ultimitely, g-d is all good
It's hard to understand this concept, and g-d is such a huge thing to grasp, but that's why this answer's in philosophy. i hope you got me... :)

I agree.... God is neither good nor evil although many well intentioned religeonists would like to believe that "he" is. God the creator is indifferent, sits back and watches us decide for ourselves what to call good and what to call evil. It has been inspired to be written....no one does anything inappropriate given the model he grows up in.

You people really need to study the Bible with those who have insight because you're answers indicate in no way do you know what the Bible REALLY teaches.
No evidence of God? How do you suppose everything around you came into existence, by chance? The odds of that happening are the same as a tornado passing through a junk yard and leaving a perfectly functioning Boeing 747 ready for take off. Its not gonna happen people.
God is GOOD. Even more than most people know because they CHOOSE not to know God. Most don't want to study the Bible, I know because I offer them the opportunity all the time.
People would much rather make up whatever they want to appease themselves about what Gods personality is. In example, the moronic comment about God being like Hitler for offering up his son. Jesus wanted to offer up his human like for FAITHFUL mankind to be redeemed from sin and death. God didn't have to make him do it. Jesus helped to create mankind so he was fond of the sons of men. (Proverbs 8:30-31)
Study the Bible and then leave educated responses for these questions and not just opinions pulled from your rear people, wake up!
A foolish person claims there is no God because they feel like it frees them from their responsibility of having to answer for their wrongdoings.

God is not evil. He is all good. Some peopl think He's evil becuase we suffer nad people die but He ALOWS those things to happen because He wants to get our attention nad wants us to rely on Him for everything. He sent His son to die for us and its not the same as if Hitler sacrificed his son. God sacrificed Jesus to SAVE usand give us a way to be with him... to give us forgiveness of sin... as if Hitler would ever do such a thing for that reason.

God = Good
Devil = Evil
If God was not good he would not be God. Your question is like saying: Do you think father christmas doesn't give presents and wear red and white?
The definition of God is that he is good, just as the definition of father christmas is that he gives presents and wears white and red.
My personal definition for both would be: "Fictitious"
