Nah. A lot of people are unhappy and that the reason is to do with their expectations and misconceptions of what happiness is. Maybe true happiness for some people different than for others. Make someone happy and you will be happy too is usually only true if that is appreciated, or reciprocated in some way (directly or indirectly!) And I totally agree that if you a re a bit miserable in a room full of happy people it is makes you more miserable so best find someone equally as mierable to comiserate with. Misery loves company so they say. Gosh does that make sense? I hope so!! Be Happyy :-)

While this is probably a good idea, I don't think your prescription carries that guarantees you claim it does. Some would actually say that trying to make other people happy all the time is actually the fastest route to misery instead of your own happiness.

Frankly speaking, I don't think it's possible to MAKE other people happy (though you can try). You can do things that are conducive to thier becoming happy. But there is no way you can assure that these efforts are successful. Some people will remain unhappy no matter what you do.

The reverse applies as well. No amount of external happiness will necessarily make you happy. I've found that if I'm unhappy in a room full of happy people my misery increases rather than decreases.

I think the hope is that if you try and make others happy, they'll reciprocate and do the same for you. Leaving aside this fallacy, there's no way they can be guaranteed to succeed. Or perhaps the hope is that your self-image will be improved and that will make you feel better. But who makes your self-image in the first place?

Ultimately your emotional content comes from you. Part of it is bodily hormonal response, which you can control. Part of it is mental self talk, which you can control. So what's stopping you from being happy at any point in time? Only your habits and perhaps a bit of instinct.

Evidence? Some people are miserable in the best of possible worlds. Some are blissful in the worst.

Be the latter instead of the former. All it takes is practice.
