Philosophy - January 2007

[Selected]: All categories Arts & Humanities Philosophy

All the sources of physics are created on abstract ideas:
inertial motion, inertial reference system, ideal gas,
absolute black body,
negative four-dimensional (Minkowski) space,
"a method of renormalization", etc.
===========================
1.
G. Galileo has shown that natural motion is ‘inertial’
but nobody knows what is ‘ inertial motion’.
2.
J. Maxwell aspired to explain electromagnetic processes from
mechanical point of view, using cogwheels and wheels.
3.
L, Boltzmann admired the equations of Maxwell and he tried
to improve Maxwell,s mechanical model.
4.
H. Hertz practically discovered electromagnetic waves
but he has declared in writing that the electromagnetic
waves have no practical importance.
Later, he wrote about the equation of Maxwell:
"…that they are wiser than we ourselves,
even wiser than their first-discovers…"
5.
"We did more than have understood".
/Rutherford/
6.
M. Planck almost for 20 years searched arguments
against his theory of the light quanta.
7.
"The more successes the quantum physics gains,
the more senseless it looks".
/Einstein/
8.
Everything is getting along, but the deep grounds remain unclear".
/Sommerfeld /
9.
"I think I can safely say that no one understands quantum mechanics".
/Feynman/
10.
What the fine structure constant ‘a’ means nobody knows
and on Feynman,s expression this quantity is
‘by the god given damnation to all physicists’.
11.
Robert Milliken told, that he knew nothing
about “last essence of electron”.

Greed: Lets be real here, we have cell phones smaller than credit cards, yet they refuse to actively seek alternative fuels. Laptops, tablet pcs, rovers on mars, yet we are still running our cars on dirty goop.

Arrogance: “There can be no alien visitors to our planet because the distance is too great.” Why do we assign our limitations to everything else?

They would be in your house for an evening, together. Keep that in mind as you assemble the guest list. So having, for example Gengis Khan and Attilla The Hun together in one room might be a bad idea. The daynamic is important, choose wisely, it is your house. The dynamic might not be so great with Mahatma Ghandi and Muossilini. Ditto John Wilkes Booth and Abe Lincoln. Consider that. Also consider that history is written by the winners. People protrayed as villains might not be, and people protrayed as heros may be total scoundrels. Be prepared for the outcome. I look forward to your interesting asnswers.

I thought i'd put this in the philosophy category, just because although i'm asking for science fiction, i don't like movie's like Star trek or those movies where the aliens are all like 'i'm gunna kill all the humans.' the movies i kinda like are the science fiction ones, that are kinda philosophical at the same time, about life and the human race...kinda hard to explain, but exmaples of these are:
K-Pax, a Space Odyssey, and i really enjoyed Mission to mars. :)
So, anyone have seen any movies like these to recommend?

I understand their are humans who write in their own style but isn't this venue about answering questions based on individuals knowledge. Many of our leaders use words not appropriate for others, this is a world where we should be free to express ourselves accordingly.

I always thought that the concept of beauty was what made you happy; what you found visually moving. Something that makes you stop and really look at it, and make you appreciate that you're alive. What do you think?

Metaphorically speaking, Love:

THE ENDLESS SKY

Love is the blue sky,
A torrent of life to come,
A rain to imply.
It is breathless hope to some.

Love is but all ways,
Yet an unknown place to dwell;
For a misty haze,
Is but a dull drunken hell.

Look outside each day,
New dawn brightens the routine;
But for which it may,
Just don’t forget the unseen.

Love is the blue sky,
Sometimes dark or hidden deep;
But a dream to fly.
It is the one thing to keep.

But abstractly, what can we say? Love: A bubbles in the bathtub that always float? The closet that squeaks when closed? A teddy bear sitting alone on a soft fluffy bed? The sweater that unravels? The damp letter that was written to no one in particular? Or a diamond in the sky?

How do you see love?
