There's a big difference between loneliness and solitude. I've known people who were lonely in a crowd. It's pretty much a frame of mind. It's isolation of the mind and soul. Man is basically a social animal, and needs the companionship of others. But just being around other people is not a cure for loneliness. A person can be lost on a desert island and never be lonely, if they keep their mind occupied with the wonders around them. People have been forced into solitary situations, and with a positive mindset, fought off loneliness. Children overcome loneliness by creating imaginary friends. If you tell yourself you have no friends anywhere, even among the people surrounding you and close to you, then you begin to develop an attitude of 'me against everybody else,' and it creates a pretty antisocial situation. They say "it's lonely at the top," and that can be pretty true, if someone works their way up, and then takes all the credit, without maintaining the support of associates. Many despots and tyrants were basically lonely individuals with that 'me against the world' attitude. But on the other hand, many great inventors and artists were also lonely people!

Because we have genetic responsibilities to further the human race. To this end man seeks women. When we cannot find women we lose touch with the base goal imprinted on our genes.
Nothing frustrates and depresses man like not being able to achieve goals. So loneliness equals unhappiness.

Because our very existence stems from company, even with artificial insemination, yes, our basic make up consists of material from two distinct organisms. After birth we depend on company in order to survive. Our evolution has gone down the social road. The experience of loneliness goes against our basic drives of procreation and survival.

i do not believe that loneliness is mans worst enemy, but rather mans given condition, a definite in a world of uncertainty. Its the realisation that despite living with billions of others on this planet, the only thing that unites us is loneliness. It is not good to dwell on our unifying loneliness, but to embrace our physical similarities.

false premise to the max, mon frere. by far the worst enemy is "low consciousness". it allows people to commit the most heinous atrocities on a monumental scale, and not think twice. in a world like that being by onesself is a gift of great magnitude. btw you may be by yourself, but you are never alone. spend a good deal of time meditating and you'll experience the numberless other dimensions and the beings that inhabit them. (shamans and magicians throughout the ages were well aware of this opportunity). if you develop the necessary skills you'll be able to communicate with them. most of them are far better companions than a goodly number of humans i've met: far wiser, and infinitely more interesting. ;-)

Simply put, some loneliness is good. It actually reminds us that we are our own being, with independent thoughts, moving through the cosmos. Loneliness can be detrimental to man, but only when man has forgotten how to be content with himself. When man is completely content with himself, any other force(individual) that crosses his path is merely a delightful addition to what he already has and has already learned about his life. In being content with himself and understanding his place in the cosmos, he has attained the height of wisdom.

simply because humans are a social creature, without interaction of some kind a person will go insane! even if they are convinced they wanna be left alone , such as a miser or something , with that role comes some level of insanity! unless you have animals to talk to which in some peoples minds is insane! like castaway the movie ! he created a persona out of a volleyball, wilson! with out him to talk to and drain his thoughts and create conversation , though it was false , he never would have been able to return to normal life! like the true story of henri young ! movie called murder in the first starring kevin bacon! they locked him in solitary confinement for so long that it drove him literally insane!! turned him to a murderer when all he was in prison for in the first place was stealing a piece of bread!! hope this helps

lonleyness is a man's worst enemy becuse w/o company, or freinds one's heart turns cold, and he'll never know happiness or be complete w/o them. making friends turns one from a human, to a person, filling them w/ life and the feeling of being complete. being alone also means no one to talk to or share expeirences w/, even the feeling of love will never be felt if you don't start w/ friends.
