David Hume addresses this in his essay of Personal Identity. The question you have can be found in your perceptions of moments. Each moment is different, because each moment is perceived by you and these perceptions can fluctuate, therefore causing each moment to be perpetually different. By the time you recognize a moment, the moment is gone and you have just perceived a new moment.

Never. There is this amazing concept called.... a memory. :) And you have to freeze a moment in time and take a mental picture that you can pull up any time you want to to relive that moment over and over and over again.
Other times..... that moment is frozen in our mind and it takes a catalyst down the road to trigger the moment as we have an epiphany! As we realize the true importance of that moment. After we recognize the moment...... we still hold the memory. The mind is pretty gracious to us that way. ;)

I agree with jboogey
it's impossible to recognize a moment as it happens and it's impossible to anticipate recognizing a moment because the future moment is unknown
conclusion, once you recognize a moment, the moment has already departed
i liked this question too =)

Unless we have the awareness to be ready, and to grasp the Moments that come to us, by the time we see that the fruit is ripe, it will have already begun to wither.
One must have a mind to be conscious of the Moment, or at least the phenomenon of Moments, before the Moment arrives, and plan to keep an eye open for the ripe fruit, not just wait for it.

Yes and no. The reality of the moment is fleeting. We can only live moment to moment and so on. There is no constant reality but the present. We can't live in "yesterday" or "tomorrow". We can only live in the here and now. However, our minds with their amazing memories can re-live moments that we have recognized as significant and worthy of review. Sometimes, that works against us as in bad memories that we keep going back to, but perhaps, there is something to be learned in an event one cannot forget. The trick is to recognize the moment, learn from it and move on with our lives in the present tense, so as not to repeat the moments that hold us back.

Yes. Unless our perceptions can form instantaneously, they will only perceive the past.
I guess that means we can never 'live for the moment' just for the 'moment passed'.
Here's a weird thought... what about the implantation of a small worm hole in your brain so that the instant someone pricks your finger, the electrochemical impulses in your brain could be sped up faster than the speed of light so that the impulses reaches the appropriate brain centre before you actually get pricked.
'Spooky science' as per Einstein.

Yes. Just consider the total irony of that.
That is why it's so important to be in the moment, not to be in the past, by thinking about the past.
Or in the future, cause we don't know if even the next moment will even come.
But just to live in the present, now. And that way we live life to the fullest.
Till we get to the next life, if, but we don't know that. It is good for us to think so, people have found. But not to say "we know" anything for certain.

Diesel Weasel,
I love that question. I think so. Each moment is unique and we really never know we are in the moment or having a moment until we enter a new moment. Wow....great question to make ya' think.

Moments are meant to be remembered. The fact that you could not view it properly at the time of its occurence helps you remember it.

I surely hope not...perhaps for some people that is what happens, but as far as I am concerned, each moment is precious, a gift, and I treasure as many of them as I have room in my treasure box for :)
