As we head into genetic engineering, will altering our genes also effect our morality as individuals? Our future depends on this answer.

Aren't thoughts of the future and the past just that: thoughts/thought constructs? When the thought of the past or future disappears to wherever thoughts disappear to it's still now. The present isn't even in the now cuz thinking about the present is a thought too. Even when "tomorrow" comes it will be happening in the now. and on and on and.......
so what time is it really? Is there something more that we're not aware of here?

When we see the merging of big corporations and the globalisation of the world's economy. Is it an agenda the rich is using to control the world much like a police state for world domination? It has been prophesized, no? All at the cost of lower wages to keep them as wage earners? 5 % over 95 % of the world's people?

We have all experienced - in one way or another - the causal link between a cause and it's effect. One thing seems to be the cause of another - fire causes smoke, etc.

According to David Hume, there is no causal link or ontological link between cause and effect. What we perceive as the ontological connection between the two is merely a psychological link. What Hume means by this is that we observe one thing coming as a result of another, and after observing this a number of times we infer the cause/effect principle on what we see. So this connection is nothing but the work of our cognitive faculty (reason or the mind), hence his so-called 'psychological link' which arises from what he calls "custom" or "habit".

For example: being a smoker, I have associated the habit/custom of smoking a cigarrette with what seems to be it's effect, namely the relief of stress or the calming of nerves, etc. Is this cause-effect link an ontological one or merely an association made by the mind?

I brought up this in the philosophy forum bc I judge this is a question about the essence of human being. Gay is an state of an essencial feature? ...

Gayness (or homossexuality) is different than "manness" or "womanness" because this two are basic premisses for being or not gay.

My point is: the ones who are gay (don't ask me what come to be "gay" 'cause this is self-evident) were born gays or were taught by the culture, local community, parents... to turn into it?

Ok? With no offenses I thank ya!

This question is raised by Socrates in one of Plato's famous "Dialogues". It is a question for Ethics, regarding the nature or origin of goodness. For Christians, there is a clear distinction between what is good and what is not good. Does this goodness lie in the fact that God commanded something or did God command it because it is good?

If it is considered as good because God has commanded it, then the goodness as such lies in God - in other words, God is then the source of that commandment's goodness. If, on the other hand, it's goodness lies in the fact that God commanded something because it is good, then goodness is something outside of God - in other words, God cannot be considered as the source of goodness.

So, which (from these two) is the correct notion of goodness? Does God command something because it is good, or is something good because God has commanded it?

this is a survey question - I just want to see if anyone understands the question. It really means would your last day be for you or others? would your last breath be the end or an act of worship?
