emotions and other people's get the best of their mind. Kind of like a mind warp.

People are not thinking about what is right or wrong when they resort to violence. They have already made the decision that what they want is so important that no other value matters.
Violence also tells us that the person who behaves violently wants to shout that he/she has power, even though he likely believes that he is perceived as powerless. Violence is an attempt to make the victim appear to be weak. By the time a person chooses a violent solution, he/she has long since come to the conclusion that what is right for him/her is never going to come to pass without some shocking display of power over forces that seem otherwise invincible.
A violent act is a statement that in this place at this time, the violent aggressor is judge and jury. What the perpetrator thinks is right is all that matters.

Lots of reasons.
1. They know it's wrong, but they don't care.
2. They enjoy hurting and/or intimidating people.
3. Lack of patience and/or intelligence to think of other ways to solve their problems.
4. Because they think it's "cool".
5. They aren't very good at handling emotions in general.
6. Lack of self-control.
7. It's the first solution that enters their mind, and they don't bother to think of others.
8. They know the person they're using violence against won't respond to anything BUT violence.
Note that I believe violence is sometimes the only viable solution. However, it should be a last resort except in situations where you'd be dead if you stopped to think of other methods to try first. Unfortunately, a lot of people are too screwed up to see it this way.

Because they were raised in a situation where the cultural norm was a defeatist attitude, where the only way to handle a situation was to take it into their own hands and prove themselves. Where the normal routes people take for conflict resolution have backfired or not been present at all. Where police are not trusted and for good reason. Generation after generation this attitude has propelled itself to the point where some people think violence is the only way out of most situations, and normal routes of retribution are not seen as a feasible alternative unless you are from an affluent family in an affluent neighborhood.

I think this goes to our baser instincts. We use violence as a tool to survive. If you look at how civilizations were forged and nations built, violence is a central theme. We can't help it. At the end of the day we are still the same animals that came out of the jungle even though we have been walking and using our brains for quite sometime now.

I don't think the person committing the violence knows/believes its "wrong," at least not while the act is taking place. People can justify their behavior to do anything.
When a man assaults his wife for cheating on him, he does not believe it is wrong, he believes he is right, because if she hadn't of done it, well then he wouldn't be hurting her.
When a president declares war, he does know that war in general is wrong, but he feels he is justified in declaring war, that there is no other option. It's like "well we can make an exception in this case because......." So then he thinks its not wrong anymore!

Well, in the case of WW II it was really the only way to deal with the Nazis, for example. Nothing else worked. Historically, violence can solve problems, with hideous side effects.

Inner Emotions come out physically all the time. Have you ever punched the wall? or punched a pillow? well these people punch each other man.
They know it won't solve anything, it's not the point. They want to get their emotions out of their system.

It's a power & control issue mixed with not being able to express themselves well. So they just resort to violence.

Well, most of the time they don't really think about it. They just go with it so quick that they can't stop themselves. I'm not saying that it's right for them to do this, because it's not, but a lot of people just don't think before they act.

Maybe its because of where they live. They might see that kind of stuff everyday and its normal to them. Or its the way they grow up. Their mom and dad could have always done that and they think is OK. It all depends on the person.
