I'm not that strong of a singer anyhow and while raspy voices can be in, this is an audition and I have a specific song to sing and its not the hoarse, husky kind. any ideas on how to recover my voice in five days?

thanks

I've never had voice lessons, just sang in the car lol, but whenever I sing I have no idea what my singing voice is. For example, every time I listen to a song I try to make my voice sound like the singer's voice instead of being consistent. Is there any way for me to find the voice that I should sing in?

The Garden

The sky dark grey a rain bearing a nervous chill fell from the sky , And I stood before it strong and brave while unsure inside, Could this clearing that I seek exist, shall I find the rainbow of my senses in your branches. I taste the apple red with passion. And find it quenches my hunger leaving me content. I taste the berry blue with calm, As it soothes my manner and stills the rush of chaotic thought. I taste the orange aglow with warmth, lifts me from the cold embrace of the uncertain, I taste the grape purple with substance, finding a sense of comfort in her unique character. I taste the banana yellow of kindred, and rejoice in fact that I shall never walk alone, I taste the lime green with envy, the bitter bite of wonder how one would not tend the balance of the garden. So I stand against the driving rain of my doubts and preconceptions, for this garden is fresh not wrought with the ash of failed harvest. Her branches are inviting calling me ever closer. For as the skys brighten the rain of chill succumbs to the warm sun she kisses my brow. Assuring me that I shall reach the clearing which draws ever closer. And I know there I will find her branches open to me. As I find the warm shelter for my dream, I shall never falter in the tending of our garden.

Thank you for all your help before with my other singing questions. All the answers really helped, and when I tried out for the musical, they told me it was the loudest they have ever heard me sing. Now I need some more help.

1.When I sing, it sounds like I am singing through my nose, without sounding nasal-y. Does that make sense? How do I fix that?

2.How do I relax my throat when I sing? My throat is always so tense. People say it should be like yawning but that doesn't help me understand.

3.How can I stop dipthong-ing? I know that's not a word, but it it sounds fugly. I don't want to use dialect tapes because that will change my accent completely and I don't want that. Are there any phrases I can use to help with that?

4.When I sing, it sounds like I start strong, back off, then get louder again, as I am changing nots and when I am changing words. How can I stop doing that?

Thanks again.
