I've never had voice lessons, just sang in the car lol, but whenever I sing I have no idea what my singing voice is. For example, every time I listen to a song I try to make my voice sound like the singer's voice instead of being consistent. Is there any way for me to find the voice that I should sing in?

In other words, if I'm singing a Five For Fighting song I make my voice high to try to sound like his voice, but if I'm singing Rod Stewart, I try to make my voice 'raspy' like his.

it sounds like you're not comfortable in your own voice, instead of finding it. I was the same way. I couldn't stand my voice, and sometimes, I still have trouble putting up with it LOL go get lessons. You'll only improve with a good teacher. And realize that not all pop singers or rock singers or whatever, are treating their voices the way they need to be, and that they are being damaged, some of them severely. You don't want that to happen, now do you?

Well Mrs. GEM ... being that I am a singer (have been since I was small) I'd say I prefer my singing voice over the two. However, as for the "match" part of your question all these years of singing and speaking loudly (as a teacher) have deepened my voice so that now they are quite a bit alike. My speaking voice is deep and so is my singing voice. My vocal coaches in the past have said the 2 are similar which is actually a bit unusual. I am glad my speaking voice changed because I hated it when I was young. I sounded more like a small animal being strangled when I talked! lol I like my voice the depth that it is now ... and I am grateful for all the years of singing! =) Peace to you. **************************************...
