Hello! I am a 17 year old senior, and I have been singing all my life. I have not had proper one on one training, but have gotten into various honors choirs, and I participate even now in a concert choir.
I am looking to become a full-flegded opera singer, but am at a loss as to what classes to take, how many years it will take me, etc.. I am hoping to go to a college that will teach me only music, thus no liberal arts. Focus! I live in SE Wisconsin... information?
Thank-you so much for your time!

I have been cast as the lead in Godspell, but I am just getting over a bad cold and my throat is sore. Plus I work at a bar and I am surrounded by cigarette smoke every day.
I am still hoarse. I am attending rehearsals and singing a LOT in order to learn my part. I am stuck. It's almost like I dont have enough time to allow my voice to heal. Any suggestions?

What instrument do you play. I play the French horn mainly, but I'm curious as to how many people play what instrument.

omg!!!!! i have music class 2morrow and i have a singing test. We have to sing a whole song by ourselves in front of the whole class!!!!!! I swear my teacher is insane! (please agree w/ me and not her!) i hate singing! and i usually get pretty bad stage fright. we did this last week to and i was shaking until the end of the period! and this is a sightreading test so there's no way ican practice it. it bad enough as it is, but we have some REALLY good singers in our class.

ps- this is why i'm in fitness instead of the musical!

I'm doing reasonably well in my career but I still have months at a time where I'm not in work. I have to be free to audition and some times I'm auditioning alot. Does any one know how I could make money in the interim? A flexible job? I'm a hard worker when I need to be. Reasonably intelligent and very creative. Are there any other actors who've found a solution? I'd love to hear it.

P.S. I don't drive! I'm not a musician but I can sing.

I hope to someday be a profesional musician, but recently I been having increasingly annoying problems with pitch and tonality. My chorus teacher blames it on vocal tension. I have read that vocal tension is caused by stimulants such as caffeine. Unfortunately, I also have ADD and take concerta twice a day to help me with my schoolwork.

Is this hurting my voice? Is there a solution that allows me to both practice singing and still be able to function at school?

I'm the new drama advisor for a high school drama club and we have to pick a play for production. I'm not looking at musicals because I don't have any experience and am not musically inclined myself. We have mostly girls, maybe 4 boys.

I'll describe a segment of my own dream, for example:

The visuals: A fashion runway scene. A model in a soft, emerald green outfit starts off the show.

The music: A string music intro, which led into a cool, down tempo trip-hop (as in Sneaker Pimps; Morcheeba etc.). I still remember the melody of the female vocal and the acoustic guitar.

Artistes do sometimes appear in my dreams with original songs (Duran Duran; Manson etc.) but space does not permit it.

By the way, I'm not a musician, so it is unlikely that I'd pick up a guitar and start bringing those songs to life - unfortunately. Do tell me of your original 'dream music' if you’ve experienced something similar.

I've heard that famous musicians such as Sting have had dreams that inspired their own music.

I am interested in pursuing a career in Musical Theater. I would like to go to NYU, because you're in the city-which is an easy way to get introduced to casting directors, producers etc.

I looked at NYU's website and Saw they had Acting, Drama and Music Theatre. What is the difference of all which should I do? I would be interested in Voice performance too. But there really isn't a "musical theater" program-at least I don't think!
