I'm president of a concert band that recently decided to transition from a concert repertoire to a jazz band/big band for a multitude of reasons. With the new genre of our group, we plan on marching a lot of parades over the summer and hamming it up for onlookers. However, we need a gimmick - a look/feel/story.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Please see their calendar of events located at http://www.atlantasymphony.org/calendarandtickets/default.aspx to suggest a good night for me. I don't know any of these so I am having a hard time choosing 1 for this season. It doesn't need to be this month - it can be anything they have scheduled this year - from Feb. - forward.

I realize that it is really "to each his own" when it comes to music and art.... however, their are some musicians and styles that are universal - I am looking for something like that to go listen to.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Best Wishes, Genie

I am 13 and doing a general audition in about a month and have yet to pick my song. I want something that has a wide range. I have a four octave range and am a soprano. I would like something that would have a bit of belting in it because that is what I love to do. I can only sing about 30 seconds of a song because I have 2 minutes and my monolouge runs long. I really need help, any ideas???

I'm not the person you think I am. If you know me, you think I'm smart and like reading, and that's about it. Everyone thinks I can't do anything but homework. I'm shy, so I never know how to break out of my shell and talk to people and tell them about myself etc. I'm disgusted with myself. I let myself get embarrassed easily, and it stops me from doing everything I want to do. I love music and acting and I really want to try out for our school musical, but I'm afraid I'll mess up and sound like a dork at the auditions. I know I can sing. I just know that I'll freeze up and freik out. Plus, my school is one of those places where popular kids decide who everyone is and if you know what's good for you, you don't mess with that. Everyone in my school thinks I'm one person, and I'm not. I don't know how to make people see who I am or change their Ideas of me, or how to try out for the musical without humiliating myself ormessing up the way things are. Any advice?

I'm in the general chorus and about to audition for a harder and better chorus. I really want to get in, but I'm scared to death about auditioning in front of the whole chorus and my friends (et all) so tips on auditioning in the first place would be helpful. I also would like singing tips-sometimes my voice strains when I sing even normal notes for my (?) alto section. Plus, I'm very rusty on reading music, so tips on symbols and especially counting rhythms and beats and time signatures, help would all that would be GREATLY!! appreciated. I would really like to get in easily, even though only about 1/3 of the people who audition get in. Please help! Thank you for your time and (hopefully) your great answers!
