Well the first play I ever saw in person was Oliver Twist and that was awesome. Others that are great are The Sound of Music, Annie, Grease, and The Phantom of the Opera. Oh, that's the best one! Hands down, the original was immaculate!

Les Miserables - all time favorite, so sad, though. i saw it live last year, and cried like a baby through the entire second act.
RENT - first musical i ever saw, though there's a very nice movie out now of this. (the movie is also sad, so make sure to bring your tissues if you're someone who cries at movies, as i am.)

Oklahoma, for the music and lyrics,
New Moon, for dealing with class system and politics, plus wonderful melodies and words,
South Pacific, for dealing with racial issues, plus the most memorable music and lyrics.
Lion King - the most creative costuming and engineering I have ever seen.
