I've never heard the maple syrup thing, and the above answerer is correct, anything syrup-y only coats your throat and makes it harder for you to sing. Nothing you eat or drink will actually touch your vocal chords, as they are in your windpipe and food/drink doesn't pass that way (you'd choke if it did). Still, I advocate drinking lots of room temperature water to keep your body well hydrated, as then your chords will get the same benefit the rest of your body gets from being hydrated.

Especially in these years when your voice is making big changes, you MUST get a good voice teacher to teach you good technique, especially if you're wanting to eventually go pro or semi-pro. You can ask the choir teacher at your school to suggest someone who teaches in the area, or try www.nats.org. Even if you don't want to sing classical repetoire, your teacher will probably begin with more classical technique to give you a good foundation on which to build whatever style you want to sing. I've been classically trained for the past 7 or 8 years, and I'm now breaking into jazz and musical theater; it's a transition, but not too difficult.

Good luck. Get a voice teacher!!

As a professional voice coach, let me tell you that this is dead wrong.

"Sugar coats you vocal chords so you can't sing as well."

And why is that? All you need do is take a look at the physiology of the human being. The larynx, or voice box, is located in the wind pipe. If something actually makes contact with your vocal cords, be it a liquid or a solid, have someone immediately do the Heimlich maneuver on you because you're chocking! That being the case, let me answer your question from a professional, knowledgeable standpoint.

1) The human being is a living, breathing musical instrument. A one of a kind. Consequently, anything that can impact on you negatively, be it allergies, a cold, smoking, or not enough sleep, will impact the health of your vocal cords.

2) To improve your ability to sing, you must learn how your physical instrument works. I would suggest finding yourself a good voice coach. If there are no teachers in your area, then go to your public library or buy this book.

"The New Voice" by Allan Greene. It is an excellent step by step approach to both building your vocal instrument and learning how to play it.

This is one of the many things that makes singing different than learning how to play a musical instrument. Unlike a violinist or a pianist or a guitar player, you cannot go out and purchase yourself a voice. You're born with it, and to make it work better, you must do specific exercises to build the musculature in the most advantageous way. Just like the Olympic athlete, you need to build your muscles in a particular way so they will perform the way that you want them to perform.

Good luck on your vocal journey! Get a teacher or buy Allan Greene's book!

Singing is something that everybody can learn and improve. Of course, some are more naturally skilled than others, but even a poor voice can be overcome by dedication, practice, and more practice. Even if you're content to sing in the shower, there are some things you can do to improve your voice. This is probably the best online course to improve your singing skills https://tr.im/jaSVf

Don't drink maple syrup-that's ludicrous. Drink tea with lemon for your voice. Always sing some scales to help your pitch/intonation, and learn as many warmups as you can and use them every time you sing.

Know the limits of your voice: a common mistake teenage boys make is thinking they need to sing low to prove they are men, or they think that just because the voice change has happened that they should be able to sing really low. What will happen is your voice will settle into a baritone range for a few years, and most men's singing voices don't truly mature and reach their highest until almost age 30, but you'll be able to sing tenor rang better in your 20s than right now, unless of course you turn out to be a natural bass.

Don't try to sing much screaming rock stuff until you're out of your teens-your voice will handle it better and recover faster in your 20s. Take voice lessons, and drink water! (No ice)

15 is a great age to start voice lessons! Many good instructors won't take students under 14, so now is the perfect time to go for it. Voice instruction won't just make you sound better, it will ensure you aren't singing improperly, which can really hurt your voice in the long run. Also, your coach will make sure you are practicing for appropriate lengths of time and on appropriate exercises so that you can develop without injuring yourself. BTW, voice lessons aren't just for people who envision being on American Idol, they're for anyone who enjoys singing and would just like to sing better and with more confidence. I've been taking lessons for three years and it's done wonders for me!

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://tr.im/61Jve

Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing.

Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.

Nowadays you can learn how to sing over the internet. You can check out the best singing video lessons here: https://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=541

The videos are very easy to follow and to my surprise extremely helpful even for advanced singers. For beginners I would have to say this is a gold mine. I was able to improve my singing, voice tone and range in just under two weeks and I am an advanced musician...
I wanted to go to a singing teacher but that would have cost me over 1500 bucks .... every month!
Following a course online is much cheaper!
