I've been working on a project that involves information about the opera world, if you will. But I do not know that much about it so I need insights on:
A. what's popular now
B. Who was popular in the year 1849 or around then
C. Are there opera competitions if so where and when
D. anything else that may be useful
Thanks

I'm 16 turning 17. Whilst reminiscing in my room the other day, I realized that I hadn't accomplished much up to this point. That's when I decided that I'd like to pick up guitar, singing, acting, dancing, or something to occupy my time with... Do you think it would be too late in the game to take up one of these hobbies? Namely, singing because I'd like to conjoin in with guitar.

Virtually any and all responses are appreciated! Try not to flame...

I've been playing violin for about two years, and recently, I got a new teacher because I had to move to a different state. My last teacher was attempting to teach me the vibrato, by shaking my hand side to side, but the teacher I have now is telling me to practice moving forward and back on the string.

Could you tell me how you practice the vibrato? Also, is hand vibrato more difficult than the arm vibrato? Or is wrist vibrato better? What is your preference?

For tryouts, we have a dance and singing section
What can I expect out of the dance section... as in what type of dance?? All it says is 'You will dance for Marty Lewis, our choreographer. Please wear clothing and shoes you can dance in"
But I heard that hes going to give us the combination...

In Summer 1985 when I was five years old, my family and I went on vacation to Mexico and I remember that a popular song from that time was Lucerito's "Fuego Y Ternura". I recently found the video on Youtube and i'm curious to know what that song title means or what it refers to? Can anyone help?

Okay so I am doing a production of Grease and trying out next week. They usually give us a song to sing from the production so what do you think possible try-out songs would be so I could be well prepared...(Kind of aiming for a lead like Sandy, Rizzo or Frenchie)

Okay, I've hit it really hard this week, and Since Sunday have lost 7 POUNDS! My husband wants to order Outback today, and I'm feeling guilty already and obsessing about it.

Should I say screw it, reward myself and just get back on it tomorrow? Or totally say "no"?

Ok, so I can't decide between drum major or section leader. Try outs are in May, but only 3 ppl signed up, and I'm the only rising senior, and i went to drum major camp last year, so I've got a really good shot. But I'm also 1st chair trumpet, and I would be brass section leader. I'm on the fence on whether or not I want to do it, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

Question sounds silly, i know, but its easier said than done. I have a lot of music that I came up with on guitar, and it seems to come pretty easily, but the lyrics are killing me. I can hum to my music and it sounds like a hit, but when I start thinking about lyrics to put in place of the humming I just get overwhelmed and frustrated.
My mind goes somrthing like this...
"what do i write about? how bout that girl i saw? no no, thats way overplayed. Well, what am I thinking about now? I'm thinking about writting a song! no that wont do. How bout what Im interested in. Ok. Im interested in writing this song. DAMMIT! ...etc.
What am I doing wrong? Should I write poetry? Read poetry? Read other peoples Lyrics? Listen to music for insperation? Learn other peoples songs? What comes first the music or the lyrics?
Your comment will help,it may just be the missing link in my dilema. In fact, if what you say turns me into a lyrical genius, i will give you 10% of what i make when i get famous

I've always loved guitar and wanted to learn to play but my parents never let me (various excuses: hands too small, wouldn't follow through with it, etc), but recently I've really been thinking about it a lot and I've also taken up an interest in bass.

I was just wondering, if I were to learn both, which would be the better one to learn first? Or do neither give you an advantage in learning the other?

I need two free-standing doors (in frames) for use as part of a stage-set. One would be the front door of a bar, the other an internal door of the bar.

I'm based in Liverpool, so I'm hoping there's somewhere nearby.

In my writing class, we have to do a presentation. It is contest to see who gets the most votes for best one, and the winner gets to perform on the schools news. I really want this. It has to be a monologue descriptive scene, evoking a certain mood. What should I be describing? (Most people in my class are doing a scary story)
