“Historians have disagreed on the true nature of the Renaissance. The clue to understanding it lies in
realizing that it was an age of contradictions, that it included many conflicting trends. Misery and
splendor, beauty and horror, despotism and the urge for free expression, all flourished side by side.”

Is this statement vaild based off a liturature on the renaissance.

It's for school and i;m having a hard time dealing with it.

Jacob Burckhardt- The Civilization of the Renaissance in Italy

Niccolo Machiavelli- The Prince

Baldassare Castiglione- The Book of the Courtier

Giovanni Boccaccio- The Decameron

-those are the doc/readings that i recived

also, should i write about the contradictions with other ages, or the contradictions inside the renaissance

Saw a guy on Richard and Judy yesterday, who may be close to building a time machine.
This may introduce lots of "paradoxes". If we went forward in time and 'missed' the "return of Christ", could we then go back and catch it. Could we go forward and see our own death, or that of a loved one, or an assaination of a world leader. What then- do we act on it in the future or return and try to stop it.
On the show the guy conceded that we could not go back beyond the creation of the time machine. So maybe we won't find out who shot JFK, or who Jack the Ripper was, or what happened to Diana really, or whether aliens have been here. As for killing your parents, not possible - because he hasn't made it yet!
This is surely of great interest to many people.
How about - once he has made it, he is about to journey in it and he steps out of it from the future!!!

Nothing that we have of value was given to us by kind Kings, benevolent Emperors or wise Presidents. What we have was acquired because ‘ordinary people’ maybe just like you, were prepared to take a risk and make a stand. Such stories can be told of people in every country and culture.

Today Aug 16 2007 is the 188th anniversary of one such event, that you may not know about.

On August 16th 1819, a public meeting was held at St Peter's Fields in Manchester, a traditional venue for public meetings. The meeting would end in tragedy, becoming known as The Peterloo Massacre, making it one of the most significant though often ignored events in British history

What is your 'Why we should remember event' ?
