Nothing that we have of value was given to us by kind Kings, benevolent Emperors or wise Presidents. What we have was acquired because ‘ordinary people’ maybe just like you, were prepared to take a risk and make a stand. Such stories can be told of people in every country and culture.

Today Aug 16 2007 is the 188th anniversary of one such event, that you may not know about.

On August 16th 1819, a public meeting was held at St Peter's Fields in Manchester, a traditional venue for public meetings. The meeting would end in tragedy, becoming known as The Peterloo Massacre, making it one of the most significant though often ignored events in British history

For Americans, it's May 4th, 1970. The Kent State Massacre. Our National Guard troops opened fire on STUDENTS that were protesting about American troops being in Cambodia. Four killed and nine wounded, one permanently paralyzed.
