1. George H. W. Bush, a Navy pilot, was shot down in the Pacific during World War II, but was rescued.

2. Ronald Reagan made movies for the Army Air Force's 1st Motion Picture Unit during World War II.

3. Andrew Jackson, at the age of 13, served as a courier in a regiment during the Revolution. Jackson was taken prisoner by the British, and was slashed by the saber of a British officer when he refused to clean the officer's boots.

4. Ulysses Grant, although an admired general in the Civil War, was not such a great president, and went bankrupt after leaving the presidency and joining a financial firm.
