I know during world war 2 there was basically a gentleman's agreement that the allies wouldn't bomb areas of Rome because of it's historical significance. What were some other areas like this, and is there anywhere I can find out more information about this unwritten agreement?

Im writing an essay on metaphysical poets and I am having trouble formulating a sentence or two that summarises the attitude towards death in present day society. I would like to mention the notion of people challenging death eg. when cars drag race one another and narrowly avoid death. I would also like to incorporate the idea that life expectancy is almost three times what it was in late 16th century/early 17th century and as a result, people seem less concerned about death.

Any help be much appreciated.

I found that I was unable to respond to comments when I asked: " Is Jefferies the Best ? ", so I asked who else thought ( as I do ) that Jefferies was the Best ? First, I recall that Nat Fleischer placed Jeff near the top in his top 10. I'm almost certain that Nat rated Jefferies over Marciano & I don't recall if Ali made his list at all ? Tough to argue with Nat who actually saw most of these guys in action.....Second, as Douglas C & Allen indicated..Jefferies DID fight some very tough guys in very tough conditions ( there were none of todays cutmen in Jeff's corner when he had his 25 round war with Sharkey )...Third.....I seem to recall that Jack Johnson once said that Jefferies was the Best Heavyweight of all time...Based on the above, it seems that Fleischer, Johnson & I all think that Jefferies was one of the Best &, in my case, I still think Jefferies was the Best of All. I also wonder why nobody tried to make a case for "non-champs" like Harry Wills, Joe Jeanette, etc. ??

The statues from the Parthenon are currently in the British Museum, but Greece regularly demands them back, as they are part of Greece's ancient history. Do they belong back on the Acropolis, or are works of art and famous artefacts the property of people as a whole rather than specific nations?

well I have a friend whose Grandad is a Nazi officer he was a good family guy and all but is loyal to Hitler, he fought the red army near the end of WW2 so as his Grandma says they still have his formal uniform and everything(and the swastika is not illegal here in the US, sad) and based on what his father and his uncle has said he is a good father not even once did they hear him raise his voice to them, he died in the late 1970s. But then he is a NAZI people, he hates the whole world, that friend of mine always says that he is never ashamed of who he is, coz he didnt ask for this, nevertheless should he be proud of his Nazi heritage??? What do you think??? I am now a bit scared coz I am 1/4 Filipino, do they hate us too???

Japan still to this day shows such arrogance for the truly horrific atrocities they committed - eg Rape of Nanking. They never apologised or paid compensation to the victims. And, of course, don't teach their children about their past in school. The prime minsters also still visit visit the graves of war criminals.

People say that we were bad for dropping two A bombs on them. But no one complained at the time when Japan was even more hated than Germany.

An Australian girl said I should let it go and I replied she should be ashamed because it was mainly Aussie POWs they tortured and murdered.

IN SUMMARY, I HATE JAPAN FOR WHAT THEY DID IN WW 2 AND I'M GLAD WE DROPPED TWO A BOMBS ON THEM.

After France surrendered in 1940, what happened to the French army? I'm guessing that it would have been disbanded and sent home (Like the Iraqi army nowadays). There would have been too much of the population to keep in a POW camp. But for such a large group of soldiers to get on with their lives and live peacefully under humiliating occupation for 4 years seems hard to believe. Where did they go? I can't find any info on the internet.

Too many coincedences on that day...
1)First steel structure to collapse of Fuel fire
~1510ºC (2750ºF) - melting point of typical structural steel
~825ºC (1517ºF) - maximum temperature of hydrocarbon fires burning in the atmosphere without pressurization or pre-heating (premixed fuel and air - blue flame)

It was ALSO an extra strong building to withstand natural disasters.
2) Traces of sulfate found on site. Sulfate is used for Demolitions because it can cut through metal
3) Coincedentally collapsed like demolition too.
4) WTC 3 collapsed too! No plane hit that. HMM...
5)Did you know that any unknown plane in Pentagon airspace recieves a warning, via radio & if they dont comply they get shot down by f-16s in a matter of minutes. That plane was in the air for a WHILE! made a HUGE 360 turn before crashing.

6) It wasnt even a plane, theres no proof..No engine, no wing shape damage in building.
I could go on and on.
Go with THE Facts..Do research on Internet, ask experts
