britain got involved when germany attacked & annexed poland on 1st sep 1939. but it was a phoney war. the actual war strted when france was beseiged on june 14 1940 & england attacked on august 1940. the famous battle is called "battle of britain" in which the royal air force of britain played a very heroic role.
the most interesting thing was the german attack on soviet union & the battle of Stalingrad. this battle turned the tide of war. gemany lost 3 million men in this war 2000 tanks & airplanes.
after the war Europe completely lost the control it had exercised over the rest of the world for centuries. imperialism was eventually weakened. communism expanded to eastern europe. the world opinion against war increased to dramatic levels. UN was created to ensure peace. jews became the centre of sympathy the world over because of the sufferings they tolerated at the hands of Nazi germany leading to creation of the state of Israel
emotional incidents:the liberation of paris also called the D-day & the obileration of Hiroshima & Nagasaki by nuclear bombs dropped by USA, accounts of the survivors from the concentration camps like austwichz, buchenwald etc.

The question you have set would fill pages and pages of answers.
Britain and the Empire was heavily involved in both wars. Interesting? Well we defeated the Hun with the allies, loads of battles, advances in all the sciences, many people killed, monarchies tumbled, revoloutions started, countries destroyed, new ones formed....
We are still feeling the changes almost 100 years after the wars. I would suggest that you look at the entire History of the world from 1904 onwards, yes 10 years before the the 1st war and see the changes being made from there leading to war.
Emotions, loads, exhiliration, sadness, fear, pain, sorrow, joy, all there.
I have books covering the subjects which cover 1000's of pages of history, you can not answer this one simply.
Sorry

in world war one belgium had a treaty with Britan saying that if Belgium was ever attacked Britan would help them in early 1916 Germany attacked Belgium so Britan sent in it's soliders and a war started that went on for a few years. Loads of volunters stopped coming after they realised it wasn't jus a holiday so men between 18 to around 45 were forced to come by conscription. There was a blockage of food because ships were being destroyed so there was a food shortage and only staple food for example potato and bread was eaten. The country was in a grim mood for a long time. World war on was called the great war because people never belived another war like that could happen again. They were wrong!
In world war two Britan was involved from the beggining and again conscritions were et up staple food was used again and this time children were evacuated to the country side because Germany had areoplanes and jets that could bomb Britan, women were made to work in factories and mills and food ration slips, many soilders died some weren't remebered so some families don't know what happened to thier fathers sons or brothers and there was many loses form the german side too. The poppies worn are to remember soilder that lost thier lives to the two wars because they began to grow in 1919 just after the first world war.

Britain was involved in World War 1, because they were allies with France, and they were targeted for invasion.
And according to a movie I saw, several months ago, a lot of the pilots of that war, went to France to learn to fly, and to learn how to be fighter pilots. And in World War 2, they were our allies, as were the Russians. But I reccomend checking some history books and websites. I know my info is fragmented.

What changes did it bring to society. I presume you mean both wars, not just one. Let's see, WW 1 caused the Great Depression and the Russian Revolution which in turn brought about the rise of communism, the rape of Eastern Europe, the nuclear arms race and the cold war. It is argued that without the Great Depression Hitler would not have risen to power. For continuing effects of that, see Holocaust, the creation of Israel and continuing war in the Middle East up to and including the war in Iraq. Without the Great Depression, Japan might well not have felt the economic pressure to bomb Pearl Harbor, so there would have been less pressure on both Germany and the United States to create nuclear weapons and a few hundred thousand people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki would have lived to grow old.
Other than that, not much.
Of course, right in the middle of WWII, my father was taking an extended hike through Europe and I was born. That's seems interesting to me.

Britain and the British Empire were involved big-time in WW-2 as indeed they had been in WW-One.
Towards the end of WW-One, the people of Britain were told that UK would become a 'home fit for heroes'. None of this actually happened. The politicians, both Liberal and Tory simply lied to the people.
During WW-2 when we had a government of national unity with Winston Churchill as PM, the British Labour Party and Movement worked out a plan to put in place a Welfare State for the British people after the war was over.
An election was held after the end of WW2 in which Labour was given a land-slide victory by the People of the UK.
We got our Welfare State, including the National Health Service and we were going to take care of the people from the cradle to the grave.
The National Health Service is the living memorial to our war dead.
