It was actually 600 *families* in the Bible, not 600 *thousand.* Later Christian accounts almost always mis-translate biblical pasages. But as for actual figures, it's an unanswerable question, because we don't really know if the Exodus actually took place. There is no archaeological evidence to support the story, and the Egyptians don't mention it.

However, it is possible that it was designed as a legend for the Hebrew people, who did inhabit Egypt during the Middle (and possibly New) Kingdom. According to Egyptian sources, Semitic peoples inhabiting the Nile Delta were kicked out of Egypt around 1550 BC, thus the 'Exodus' story may have been devised by Hebrews claiming they chose to leave rather than being forced out.

As for the argument for a million people, that is absurd. Even Egypt didn't have much more than a few million people, there is no way the Hebrews could support such a population moving out of Egypt.

Since time frames are murky, and even the history of Egypt at various times was open to debate, the actual numbers are unlikely to ever be known. Ignoring those who either attempt to answer sarcastically or just for the basis of 2 points, the numbers in the 50 to 60 thousand range are probably close. The arguments as to the lack of evidence in Egypt are interesting however there are also arguments that such evidence does exist. Remember that the time frames these events took place in are very much open to error. There are differences of more than 1000 years between the various times the Exodus is supposed to have taken place.

One thing is sure though, it is unlikely that all of the Jews left Egypt since historically there have alwyas been populations of Jews within Egypt.

Hello,

Outside the bible itself the history of Jews in Egypt is very murky in those times and Egyptians themselves didn not record the events. In short there are no real numbers available from historians.

Later Jewish sources report the number at 600,000. Based on what we know about the folk process and the Egyptian society at the time, historians estimate the actual number at approximately 1/10 of that, roughly 60,000.

I doubt it was anywhere near what some of these have put down and, I doubt if it was anywhere near what the Bible said (600) the Bible tends to expound sometimes. You have to remember the Bible was written by men, 300 years after the death of Jesus.

I don't think we'll ever know for sure only, that it happen and, not even like the Bible said it did. It does make a good story.

I observed this play and that i endure in ideas the "verdict" from the three "judges" chanced on God accountable of breaking his covenant with Israel. They concluded that the God of Abraham had made a sparkling covenant and that their God replaced into no longer solely the God of Abraham and of Israel. to respond to your question, how could Hitler fare if he replaced into in God's courtroom being judged by ability of God's regulations? If I have been area of the jury, i could be forced to usher in a verdict of accountable based on the actuality he dedicated genocide (to the song on some 6.5 million human beings) and, considering you point out the ten Commandments, broke all of them besides. even nonetheless, none human beings are appropriate. all of us sin. that is in basic terms that some human beings realize it whilst something are in denial. lack of understanding is under no circumstances an excuse. Ever tried telling a site visitors cop which you probably did no longer understand you have been in a 30 miles consistent with hour limited section once you have been clocked doing forty? Like, you probably did no longer see the line lighting fixtures or the advisory velocity shrink indicators in the previous you got here into the geared up up section? which you have been in a hurry and your company replaced into extra substantial than the existence of a individual you may kill? the certainty is we refuse to take accountability for our strikes - in my opinion and jointly. considering lack of understanding of the regulation is under no circumstances a defensible excuse, consistent with probability we would desire to continuously be paying extra interest to God's regulations in the previous we detect ourselves answering to God for our strikes.
