Saw a guy on Richard and Judy yesterday, who may be close to building a time machine.
This may introduce lots of "paradoxes". If we went forward in time and 'missed' the "return of Christ", could we then go back and catch it. Could we go forward and see our own death, or that of a loved one, or an assaination of a world leader. What then- do we act on it in the future or return and try to stop it.
On the show the guy conceded that we could not go back beyond the creation of the time machine. So maybe we won't find out who shot JFK, or who Jack the Ripper was, or what happened to Diana really, or whether aliens have been here. As for killing your parents, not possible - because he hasn't made it yet!
This is surely of great interest to many people.
How about - once he has made it, he is about to journey in it and he steps out of it from the future!!!

The point behind time machines, is that can you go forward and back? If so how far could you? Can you go back past the time you built the machine or not?
Most scientists agree that any attempt to do so will not be in this Universe but each trip would end in an alternate parellel universe which would be identical almost to the one we are in now and the causality effect of the time travel would only affect that particular universe.

Hello,

It would not be a good idea. Think for example if people went back and killed Hitler. I along with many other babyboomers would cease to exist or be destroyed since many of our parents met because of the circumstances of WWII. In short you might save that 60 million who perished but wipe out another few hundred million. There are an infinite number of paradoxes possible.

By the way, on the movie channels this month they are showing a movie flick called A Sound Of Thunder where atime travelling hunting expedition to the Jurassic squashes a small butterfly and drastically alters the future... Ray Bradbury's story. He has had this speculation for many years.

In order to believe time travel is possible, you have to believe that it is possible for something to exist where it didn't.

If I built a machine today and set it to go back to last week, well then as I passed today going backward, the machine wouldn't esist because it didn't exist yesterday. And if I set the timer to go back to before I was born, neither I nor the machine would reach there since we didn't exist then.

I don't think you can move into a parallel "timeline" and interact with it.

If we did go back successfully I think you would only "see" events and not be able to interact with them, which I don't think is possible.

I'd have a better chance at going to the North Pole and getting Santa's autograph.

g-day!

If time travel is possible, then chances are that it has already happend. A time traveller has the advantage of 20/20 hindsight. Their journeys into the past can be explained as, using "The Flipside of Dominic Hyde" as an example, UFOs. Strange occurances might also be attributed to witchcraft, acts of God(s) etc.

In short, we would not know what to look for until we were already travelling in time and could therefore explain these events as post mission briefings.

time travel is a good answer to questions which are regarding such issues as to affect people's ideology and ideas but it would have to be properly managed otherwise it would cause a paradox and unwanted side affects . so maybe although time travel is good in many aspects in regards to answering questions more precisely it would have to be controlled in the hands of a "good "person as if it was in the hands of a "evil "person they would cause the unwanted side-affects and paradoxes, also surely there is a also a element of risk that the user of time travel would use time travel for personal gain and not for the gain of the human race or races . I added the plural as we might find different life forms which then come to earth ,the other life forms could also be classified as humanoids if they do exist so contributing to the list of human races making it a plural. we must also consider that time travel is only travelling in time so any lost or gain would be somewhat limited and my final point shall be that what if time travel as it starts it's journey only through one side of time according to the professor's words ,it can only go through that side of time, therefore
meaning if you take time travelling methods would you still come back from the journey to tell people they could travel trough time

A further problem of just travelling in time is that the planet is travelling in space, so when you re-appear, the world would have moved away from you.

That's why Dr Who has a ship which moves in Time And Relative Dimensions in Space.

I remember reading a story about Chronoscopy - the ability to view past time, if not actually visit it, but the basic tenet is the same. When is the past? 1hour ago? 1 second ago? Inthe end, people were going to be able to watch other people as they went about their daily lives. Not a good plan.

it's a brilliant idea!

I could travel back in time and see all of my favourite bands at their prime!

Queen, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, CSN, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Thin Lizzy....

I'm getting wood just thinking about it.
