What were the consequences of the students protests of May 1968 in France? I've been always told that they changed the face of France and that they were a very important event... in a positive way. But today I read in the newspaper that conservative's biggest victory in France was in 1968, because people were tired of the protests. So after all, I want to know how Frenchs of today see the 1968 protests (if good or bad and why) and how people of 1968 saw the protests? If it was so unpopular why it is considered so important?

I see expertise in History and expertise in Current Events much differently. I would concede that Historians have a unique perspective on Current Events as well as having a grip on Current Events helps to understand History.
I once heard that anything that has happened in the last 25 years should not be called History because there is not enough perspective. Do you agree?

By Africa I mean the sub-Saharan region, the main ('black' as opposed to 'arab') hub of the continent below the conflict of the north.

Was there fighting here? I realise many of the countries were actually colonies of German, Britain etc so what part, if any, did they play? Congo, Togo, Senegal, Rhodesia, Kenya, Madagascar etc etc

Thanks!
