The presidents that died in office follow a pattern. They were all elected in years ending in zero except for one.
William Henry Harrison- 9th president- elected 1840, died 1841- cause of death: influenza & pneumonia
Zachary Taylor - 12th president- elected 1848, died 1850- cause of death: food poisoning, possibly a conspiracy, possibly lack of refridgeration.
Abraham Lincoln- 16th president- elected 1860, died 1865- cause of death: shot
James Garfield- 20th president- elected 1880, died 1881- cause of death: an infection that he got from doctors trying to remove a bullet. He was shot, but the shot itself was not fatal. Medicine in the 1880s, however, was. Most doctors still believed that disease was caused by miasmas, or, bad air, not germs. The doctors tried to remove the bullet with unwashed hands, and the infection spread and killed Garfield.
William McKinley- 24th president- elected 1900, died 1901- cause of death: shot
Warren G. Harding- 28th president- elected 1920, died 1923- cause of death: unknown. He might have commited suicide, he might have been poisoned, his wife could have done it, the mob could have done it. He was sick for a while before he died. His wife was running the country kind of.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt- 31st president- elected (for the 3rd time out of 4 total) in 1940, died 1945, cause of death: polio
John F. Kennedy- 34th president- elected 1960, died 1963- cause of death- shot.
So, at least 3 presidents were killed by assassination, and a fourth died as the result of doctors trying to save him from an assassination. His death is generally credited to assassination. All four of these men were shot. The other four who died in office died of natural causes. Two of poisoning, one of the flu and pneumonia, and one of polio.

Four - Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley, and John F. Kennedy were assasinated while in office.
Some one attempted to assasinate Andrew Jackson, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan.
It was once thought Zachary Taylor was poisoned, but his body was exhumed and the theory proven wrong a few years ago.
Conspiracy theorists believe Warren Harding may have been poisoned by his wife, but historians and the *true* facts (i.e. he was not cremated as conspiracy theorists state) indicate this is highly unlikely.

the presidents who were assassinated were : Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley, and John F. Kennedy
There were other atempted assassinations on other presidents, the first one on Andrew Jackson which didn't turn out so well (Jackson chased the guy and beat him with his cane).
There was also this "curse" that any President ellected in a year that ended with 0 would die in office, and it seemed to be true until Ronald Regan (elected 1980) almost got killed, but survived, "breaking" the curse.
