All this talk about Prince Harry going to Iraq got me wondering: Who was the last member of the British Royal family to be killed in combat? I'm sure there are some extended members who were killed in one of the World Wars, but I was wondering who, if any, of the immediate Royal family have been killed in action?

I know this is probably a pretty broad question...but I was wondering how Western Europe transformed from a sparsely populated, technologically declined, and barbaric place into the world's wealthiest, best educated, MOST technologically advanced civilization in the world? Any help would be greatly appreciated

or was this just a side show to what was really happening?

protestant movement evolved into parliamentary control. Cromwell's uncle? maybe was involved even back then with Henry VIII's deal. And the parliament that was given much more power with Cromwell, set up for the running of the state by lobbies like we have today.

Same thing with France and their execution of Charles XVI

Im looking at a painting from 1476, and in the description of all if its symbolism they describe corn (which kinda looks like young corn stalks, but yellow) as being this very symbolic thing in the painting. but i was under the impression that corn was isolated to america untill at least 1492...when columbus sailed the ocean blue. Is this not true?
