all depends on what civilization was living there and at what time. also depends on what region of turkey and iraq. For instance, the hittites called their rgion hatti which was name after the capital hatusha, but also after the natives who lived there before the hittites arrived called the Hatti. northwest turkey was called Pala, for the Palaic people. southern turkey was called Lukka for the Luwian Peoples. in classical times, central turkey was called Phrygia for the Phrygian peoples, likewise other regions had their given names:Lycaonia, Galatia, Lycia, Lydia,Caria, etc. It was generally the greeks and egyptians who gave us the terms anatolia and asia minor for turkey and mesopotamia for iraq. the Sumerians called their land Ki-Engir, while the Akkadians in northern mesopotamia called their land Akkad and then Babylon. It should be noted that Babylonian is a dialect of the Akkadian language.

Both territories of what is now Turkey and Iraq, were part of the "Ottoman Empire".
After World War I, due that the Ottoman Empire had been on the side of the Central Powers, (the loosing side) its territory was divided.
Countries like Iraq and Turkey were created and other territories that had also belonged to the Ottomans were given as "Mandates" to England, France and Belgium as a compensarion for their heavy loses during the war.

Turkey was the Ottoman empire. Iran was formerly Persia.
Iraq was historically known as Mesopotamia, which literally means "between the rivers" in Greek. This land was home to the world's first known civilization, the Sumerian culture, followed by the Akkadian, Babylonian, and Assyrian cultures, whose influence extended into neighboring regions as early as 5000 BC. These civilizations produced the earliest writing and some of the first sciences, mathematics, laws and philosophies in the world, making the region the center of what is commonly called the "Cradle of Civilization". Ancient Mesopotamian civilization dominated other civilizations of its time.
