as a child would always say things like,{a bird in the bush is worth 2 in the hand}as a child i didnt have a clue what they where on about ,
I mean realy, never whistle with a mouth full of custard.
Dont piss in the wind. comes in very handy when your on a boat
but not when your 7.
You should never put any thing in your ear but your elbow.
Itried for years to get my elbow in my ear with out any success may i add.
It left me utterly confused for many a year of my adolecence.
I cant be the only one there must be more confused adults out there,
do you have any proverbs that you have been indoctrinated with.

I'm just curious really, I know there was the silk route and everything (though not sure about the date when that was around), but what did regular ancient europeans (as well as the Egyptians I suppose) actually think existed in the East. Did they know about China? Did they travel there and trade with them?

I'm just wondering becasue everyone knows about the discovery of the Americas, but I've always wondered, when did Euope and Asia 'discover' each other, or have they known of each other since the dawn of time? Oh and what about India? I just can't my head round it. How could they know about China and not know about Australia for example?

If you can answer any of my questions it will be appreciated.

Since the 4th of July is coming up, and people tend to complain about bordom, I thought I would ask a few questions about the Revolution.

1. In what war did George Washington fight FOR the British?
2. Who wrote, “Common Sense.”
3. Who said, “We must hang together or we will surely hang together.”
4. Why did Washington cross the Delaware?
5. On what night was this Delaware crossed?
6. What was, “the turtle”?
7. How many times was the turtle used?

Women were not permitted to learn to read or write. They were thought to have smaller brains than men. They were thought to be evil by nature because of Eve. When a woman married, she was the property of her husband and subject to his will in all matters. If he died, her family could again marry her off to whomever they wish. Do you think you would have obeyed and done what was expected? Do you now? Or would you have rebelled to be who you feel you wanted to be or had to be, especially since it could have meant you'd be branded a witch or worse and be put to death. What would you have done?

I am trying to come up with evidence to prove that he was Moses, and I do not mean the sculptor Thutmose who made the Nefertiti bust, I mean Akhenaten's brother who disappeared shortly before his would-be ascension to the throne. The info I have so far supports my theory, but I still need more. As he had no birth record, it may mean he was adopted even.

Everyone always seems to think that they were Cleopatra or some famous general. Was anyone a plain serf or housewife in the middle ages?

I found it while digging around in the back of an equipment storage area along time ago and its been floating around my house as a knick-knack ever since.

The words "Santa Rosa" are etched on it in relief along with some roses that protrude outwards. From measurements, I'm guessing that it would've fit a 2" diameter hose. It looks fairly old, definitely not modern manufacture. Its not brass, but made from either some kind of iron, cast iron or soft steel.

Google and "Ask" haven't been able to offer me a decent clue. And I checked with the Santa Rosa, CA FD; they didn't have any ideas either.

Anyone here have any clues or ideads about this item? Or where I might go to find more detailed information out about it?

I'm wondering if it might be a collector's item, an antique or something.

Any and all information gratefully received.
