I have heard of people who regressed and were just ordinary Joes. I saw a documentary on Discovery once about a woman in Liverpool who had visions of a very poor life in Ireland. She eventually went to Ireland and met her "son" who was by then a very old man. They all seemed quite on the level.
But I know what you mean. If you do not believe in past lives then regression therapy can only be explained by auto suggestion or deception. In both cases subjects will have a better idea of what Cleopatra's life was like ( coz we have seen the film ) than an ordinary persons.
Plus it's human nature to want to be special somehow. There was a TV show in the UK where celebrities underwent regression therapy and none were famous ..but guess what.. they were all heroes of some kind
" Yes, Philip, now I know where I get my ( generally wonderfulness ) from "

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you. Not everybody thinks they were famous, or sees it as something to be taken lightly when regressed. I was regressed in bid to surface memories at the time thought was best to be surfaced in bid of a healing process. Where others have been taken back to believe (maybe they were) they were famous, it took me back to my hellhole by making me remember what my mind had obviously believed I was not able to comprehend, thus the reason for supression to begin with.
If I hadn't had it, I could have been leading a very different life to now. Although I decided not to have more because of the severity of what was seen and surfaced, it made me realise the reason for the memory block to begin with.
We aren't always supposed to rock a calm sea, the boat can sink in the unknown storm, I longed for a rainbow and the regression was a big helping hand in waking up the "survivor" in me.
Don't knock regression, famous person of past, not me...I always believed I was a chimney sweeper, and little thieving chimney sweeper. My dreams of past make me believe that and seeing my own hands in the dreams of soot. I was murdered in my past life, caught thieving I think.....lol

Wishful thinking. It's related to a syndrome found among certain groups (here I'll pick on the Daughters of the American Revolution as an example, no offense meant ladies!): There were apparently no enlisted men in the American Revolution. It seems that everyone's ancestor was an officer in the Continental army! They are hardly unique in that however.

Good question.
It seems somehow the person wants to a celebrity and important as presumably in the current life they are not.
However, there is progression therapy when the person under hypnosis discusses their future lives....
But clever prompting by the regressor can "produce" memories or in some cases events from films and books.
Yes, that is fact.

Hypnotherapy is a trick! It leaves your innovations open to demons, and in the event that they are enable in you will replace into an Abomination. All Abominations, Apostates and Maleficars might desire to be positioned to dying, by utilising the choose of the Maker!

There was a programme on TV called, 'Past lives', I think. This guy was regressed and he told his story of a past life. When he was awoken and listened to himself on tape he was well impress with the story he'd told under hypnosis.
The hypnotist then pointed out it was the story to the film 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves'.
What a bummer.
Scientist's explanation is that hidden memories are passed down with the genes.

They don't. That is the standard statement made by people who don't believe in it's authenticity. But if you actually get involved you will find a lot of everyday people living and dieing everyday lives. I have never heard of anyone having been shown that they were famous! Not a single one.

Maybe it's because if you spent all day on your hands and knees holy-stoning the decks of a merchant vessle you wouldn't WANT to remember it.
Actually, I heard about this bloke once - no, really, this is not made up - who kept having dreams about being a Tommy in WW1 and he could remember his friends and everything and he traced them and they were still alive. He wasn't a famous person in either life.

No they don't. Arnold Rimmer plainly said in Red Dwarf that he had once been Alexander the Great's chief eunuch. If he had thought he was some one famous he would have said Alexander the Great himself!
