I remember one time Canadian had a flag similar to the Australian. What ever happened to it and why did they changed from the original flag to the modern Canadian flag?

Canada and Australia were (kind of still are) part of the British Empire. But, Canada was granted freedom to govern from the English Parliament - and Canadians could now make their own governance's without British authority.

Canada came up with the Maple Leaf flag in 1964 to represent Canada as it's own country.

A prime minister decided to change it. I can't remember which prime minister did it though. Lester B. Pearson? Someone out there has to know. I do know, however, that it was after WWII, since I've seen footage back then with the old flags.

Gosh, I'd like to help you but I really don't spend much time or energy thinking about Canada.
