as a child would always say things like,{a bird in the bush is worth 2 in the hand}as a child i didnt have a clue what they where on about ,
I mean realy, never whistle with a mouth full of custard.
Dont piss in the wind. comes in very handy when your on a boat
but not when your 7.
You should never put any thing in your ear but your elbow.
Itried for years to get my elbow in my ear with out any success may i add.
It left me utterly confused for many a year of my adolecence.
I cant be the only one there must be more confused adults out there,
do you have any proverbs that you have been indoctrinated with.

this is a SUPER question! i never (until this year actually) understood what "pretty is as pretty does" meant, also when i said sorry my mom would say sorry won't hack it. my uncle constantly quoted children should be seen and not heard. i also had the bird in the bush one quoted to me repeatedly. i'm sure there are more, oh yes, if you play with fire you're gonna get burnt. and clean hair is better than a new dress!!!! what a super memory stir-up...except they're frustrating memories, lol :)

Perhaps you should have been thinking about the application of the proverb instead of spending so much time attempting to put your elbow in your ear. It would have been more useful, besides if it took your entire adolescence to realize you could not get your elbow there it says a lot about your abilities to reason and accurately asses any situation. Oh yes, if you are 7 pissing into the wind I am sure it got a little wet for you also. But you probably tried over and over to see why you should not do that. Ha

Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today. Family used Poor Richards Almanac! Red sky at night Sailors delight, Red sky in the morning, Sailors warning! We lived near the Atlantic and lakes! Too soon we get old and too late smart! Many other platitudes, too many to list! LOL

I dont know if this is a "proverb" but 2 wrongs dont make a right! I think its dont put anything in your ear"smaller" then your elbow! so therefore never put anything in you ear ever! lol

My favourite ever is;
"Dark at night, light in the morning"
It confuses the hell out of people
