According to family history, my maternal grandmother's father was one of 2 brothers who survived a shipwreck and washed ashore to the beach of a village called Kuala Penyu in Sabah, East Malaysia. They stayed on and married the locals. My grandmother's father was called Laksamana and they say he was a pirate. This happened about or more than 100 years ago. Can anyone shed light on what exactly he was? Rather dubious. In the Malay archipelago, Laksamana is an admiral. What does Laksamana means in the Phillipines? Or is it just a name? Thanks

This person is of very distant relation, we were close as children, now 20 years later, I would like to find him and I don't know how. I have checked myspace, the phonebook, zaba search and other sites like it, classmates.com, and nothing online so far has been fruitful. I don't know where to find any of his relatives other than my close family, and they know nothing of his whereabouts. Is there something that will search speciffically for lost family members, though it may be hard to put our relation onto paper...several marriages tied us together and now several divorces have untied us. Please help if you can. Please only give serious answers...save jokes for someone else, please.

I was researching some death certificates and came across my grandpa. He put a gun to his head and committed suicide at the age of 50. I refuse to talk to my dad about his because it is nothing something you talk about. I knew my Grandpa was depressed and had alcholism problems. He was a great guy when he was not depressed my dad would say. He said he needs to remember the good times with him because those are more important.

I never met my father, and my mother is very closed off to any discussion about him. I don't want to find him or anything, I'm just curious as to what my ethnic origin is. My mother is 100% Irish...which obviously makes me half-Irish, but when I look in the mirror I can't even begin to guess what the other half of me is.

Recently, I found a silly site called My Heritage, where you can upload a picture of yourself and see which celebrities you most resemble... I've gotten a few comparisons to Asian actresses on there, but I don't know if that necessarily means anything. Do you guys know of any real, veritable sites where I can just upload a photo and find out my ethnicity, and not which celebrity I look like? (Or, do you know of any other ways or means I could find out what I am?) Thanks in advance.

I just read where a young boy names Max Hell, Melbourne Australia, was not allowed to go to a Cathlolic school because of his last name. The father offered to change it to his wife's maiden name but then said No. They had no problem in public school. I guess the Catholic school changed it's mind but now the family isn't sending him there.

I wonder what the history of the name means? Does anyone know? In today's day and age I would probably change my name.

How easy is it to cancel a membership to Ancestry.com? I'm interested in a 14 day free trial they're offering. They want my credit card number and say I can cancel at any time, but I know some of these places make that VERY difficult. Has anyone ever canceled an Ancestry.com account and if so, how difficult/easy was it? Also, do the amount of records they have available make it worth the cost?

Thanks!

I am doing geneaology research and one of my ancestors was from "Olive, FL". Never heard of it and can't find any reference to it other than the "community of Olive" in Pensacola. I live in Pensacola and have never heard of this "community". Anyone know of a website or database that gives info on "lost" cities?
Thanks!!
