It is Italian and it comes from the word testa which means head of household, derived from the Latin testam which means shell, used as a nickname for physic or intellectual characteristics.

Surname "origins" are meaningless if they're not yours, and if they're yours you know already either your family history or that you need to go about researching YOUR family. Not be throwing darts in the dark at someone else's.

Genealogy is about researching dead ancestors.
