People on the genealogy part of Yahoo answers are searching for pieces of information that elude them when they are stuck in researching specific things or people in their family tree.
However, there are some people who will answer you and I quote" that genealogy is all about dead people". That is not correct, since without the living ones what is the point, since the family tree would be incomplete. Not only that, the information about the people who have lived in the past is not only names and places. A true researcher will want to know more about the way they lived, loved & the why's and wherefores.
Some people on here i.e: Granny Toad comes on the UK website from the USA, because they don't really have enough to enthuse her there. Just to get her two points on most questions, Acting like the Genealogy Police, telling people that they shouldn't be in this section because what they are asking is not about Dead People.

On the Internet its mostly porn.
As for my own ancestry and ancestors, I frankly don't give a damn. They were probably a bunch of cattle rustlers or something worse, mostly either got hanged or transported to the penal colonies.
It's how people survived.
Take a look in the criminal files at the Old Bailey going back to the 1700s and see what I mean.
Get surfing.

Welcome to Yahoo Questions and Answers. It might be helpful when you ask a question to look to the left and pick a category. Your question got put under genealogy. Under all the categories you see will be sub categories.
At 72 there are limits to what I am searching for. I do like to find my ancestors.
If you ever want to trace your family tree, there are people on this board that can give you great advice and ideas.
Just ask.

They are searching for some historical background regarding their ancestors. What they find is mainly just a list of names and occasionally occupations. The further they go back the more dubious are the family connections. I have to admit that I am one of them.

I am not looking for happiness; if you look for it, you won't find it. But, I am looking for my ancestors; most of them are still missing. I have found out so much about my ancestors, and, along the way, your ancestors and everyone else's ancestors. So, I have learned so much about history, languages, customs...
It reminds me of that old song where the verse goes, "...only the good die young..." which, for me, means that the "good" people were conquered and the tough "mothers" conquered.

I'm searching for several 5-9 year old girls that escaped from my basement last Saturday. I'm betting they're halfway home by now.
