I never met my father, and my mother is very closed off to any discussion about him. I don't want to find him or anything, I'm just curious as to what my ethnic origin is. My mother is 100% Irish...which obviously makes me half-Irish, but when I look in the mirror I can't even begin to guess what the other half of me is.

Recently, I found a silly site called My Heritage, where you can upload a picture of yourself and see which celebrities you most resemble... I've gotten a few comparisons to Asian actresses on there, but I don't know if that necessarily means anything. Do you guys know of any real, veritable sites where I can just upload a photo and find out my ethnicity, and not which celebrity I look like? (Or, do you know of any other ways or means I could find out what I am?) Thanks in advance.

Ask your parents and grand-parents. Go to the public library the genealogist at the library can help you.

First off, I'm glad you realize that the facial recognition tool is quite silly and not very legitimate--many people would take that as fact! :) The best way is simply to start with your own family. If you want to do it on the computer, you can download PAF (Personal Ancestral File), which is free genealogy software at http://www.familysearch.org under Order/Download Products. I imagine you can pick it up pretty quick because it is very user-friendly. Then talk to your mom (and grandparents if still alive) and get as much information as you can from them including names, dates, and places.

Here are a few online resources for you to use:

http://www.familysearch.org - Probably the best free online resource.

http://www.ancestry.com is one of the best but has a hefty subscription fee (for most of its databases).

Also, you can check the surname message boards for your surname at:

http://genforum.genealogy.com
http://boards.ancestry.com

For links to helpful sites, you will want to take a look at:

http://www.cyndislist.com

And finally for a lot of different resources:

http://www.rootsweb.com

For grave records:

http://www.findagrave.com

It won't all be free but it's worth it. Here's an article about finding the meaning and origin of your surname:

http://www.squidoo.com/surname-meaning-origin

Good luck,
Dave

Dude. The 0.33 one isn't up yet. And it is going to in no way be until RK posts some thing. the 1st one grow to be kinda not on time...Warped positioned it up the time it grow to be meant to however the band took an afternoon to place the clue up, that's why maximum individuals already solved it.

I think you have to order something, though. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help than that!
