I've always wanted to start dancing because I would LOVE to, but I grew up with parents who aren't really into singing and dancing and didn't let me when I was little :<

I'm currently sixteen years old and I heard some people just practice dancing in their room from watching a music video or something? Is it stupid to practice dancing in your room by copying or following something? I tried once but somehow I just feel really stupid and can't go on x.x;;

I'm no no position to go enroll into a dance studio or dance class--my parents would never approve anyways :<

Thank you! No mean comments please ._.;;

My s/o is a pretty good dancer and wants to dance with me when we go out. I have NO rhythm and am extremely embarassed to try to dance in front of people. Would dance lessons help or is rhythm something you either have or don't and there isn't much you can do about it?

i am a graduate with a flair in robot/popping dances.
i have won series of intercollegiate solo dance competitions (10 of them) .i can perform but cannot teach masses.i want to have only one student whom i can impart my thoughts/dreams on complex robot dances.this will never earn me revenue the way other dance institutes do but they do not provide quality stuff and also charge a lot.
Please advise.

This year for a production that I 'm in at college the theme is going to be the wild/animals. The group is a lyrical dance group and I am planning on choreographing a number for our group but I'm having a difficult time finding a song that both fits the theme, is age level appropriate, and that I like. Any suggestions??

Can anyone suggest any sites other than dancepartner.com that I might be able to find a partner to take classes with/ practice with, and/or go to milongas with? I am not picky about age, height , or body type. I just appreciate a man who knows enough to freshen his breath after eating a curry a dinner, or bring a change of shirt if he sweats profusely, and is honest with himself about his skill. ( I am conscious of the same for myself). Have taken group classes, attended practicas and milongas, in an effort to connect with someone who would like to practice with a partner, no strings attached, but it is not so easy. NY'rs can be distant that way. Am continuing to go out dancing , take lessons.

Anyone out there who is open to enjoying tango and the music, not worried about being perfect, but is serious about improving?

There have to be a thousand old costumes in my closet at this moment.

And I have no idea what to do with them.

I really want to sell them and get some money for it. But I don't know where!!

Selling things on the internet don't work for me. So is there any stores you know about that would buy costums from someone?
Or at least take them out of my closet?!

I mean. Think of it this way: You go to Germany without knowing a word of German (and never having learned another language in your life). Once you go there and take a few German lessons and stuff, you becomes such a wiz at German that you can say anything with great profession.
How this relates to Ballet: Once you get your legs all stretched out, and your ankles and hips good and strong, isn't Ballet just another skill that you don't need a gazillion years of training to be good at?
I knew a guy who learned to read for the first time when he was 90. And all those people on Dancing With The Stars learn how to dance at a professional level in only.. what.. a few months (I've never really watched the series.. i have a class when it comes on)?
I can tell that Ballet is trickier than it looks, but does it really require so many years of experiance? I know companies only accept "the best" and stuff. Do companies even look at those who HAVEN'T been in training since birth?

I'm taking a dance class, and--I hate to toot my own horn--but I think I'm OK. I know I'm not the best, but I don't think I suck...

Well, there are a few REALLY talented students in my class, and the teacher's constantly pointing them out and saying how good they are and how gorgeous they look. CONSTANTLY! To the point of annoying. I have just recently started to worry about myself rather than compare myself to other people in the class, but it's so hard when I'm trying my best and don't get any credit. I hardly know the teacher, so I don't think it's my business to tell her that what she's doing is bothering me. What else should I do? Why are some dance teachers like this?

I've been dancing my whole life so I have that down, but I can't do back handsprings or anything like that. I'm going to be a freshman and the cheer and dance team are combined and I think cheer would be fun, do you think I'd have to have experience in cheer to make the team. Any advice on what I should do now or with the tryouts?

I was told that some NY Salsa Instructors are prejudiced of black people. I even seen it for myself at some of the classes/salsa socials here in NYC. If you notice, most performance teams are not even diverse - its like you have to be 100% latino/latina to be part of a performance team, or not "look black" for that matter. And if you are black or "look black", the prejudiced people will try and stop you from suceeding in any salsa dance endeavor you embark on, meaning they attempt to shatter your dreams in obvious and subtle ways. This is the message I got from my experience in the salsa scene and boy is it sad.

I'm a brown-skinned woman of mixed nationalities, and being Hispanic is one of them. I cannot believe the prejudice going on...100% Latinos/Latinas from the Caribe have African origins too. Why act wrong toward someone who enjoys dancing salsa and "looks black"?

I just do not get it. If someone has the answer to this one, please do tell.
