You do not state what you expect to get from your dancing. Better physical condition, flexibility, better motor skills, pure joy of moving to music, contact with dance partners...?

I have danced Argentinian tango with my boyfriend. I highly recommend that if you like the music. Getting deeper into tango, it will change your understanding of the opposite sex/ your dance partner. If you have a girlfriend and want to take it up with her, tango will be a perfect test of your relation ; ) but also it can strengthen it.

Search the internet or local tango school for lessons or groups for younger people interested in tango.

In tango you will have to lead, but also you will have to endure your own and your partner's faults. You only can go further in skills if you support one and other whether you have a permanent partner or not. Talk about learning group work skills!

From a guitarist (non dancer, male) I have heard that salsa is really easy. The music is not complicated, and the steps are not as demanding as in many dance disciplines. So if you just want to have fun and meet people, then do salsa.

If you have a good sense of rhythm, or want to develop it, why not try flamenco. For men it is a very macho tradition. But again, you need to like the music, which is very different from most western 2/4 and 4/4 music.

What has already been said is true: whatever dance you like is suitable for you regardless of your sex. I wish you happy moments with your new hobby!

ANY type of dance is appropriate for men. There is nothing sissy about learning to dance, and if you become a good dancer, you will make points with women, trust me. Women love a man who can dance and dance well. It adds to a man's appeal. Besides, dancing is good exercise. I would suggest looking in your local yellow pages for dance instructors/schools--they teach a variety of dances, and the more dances you learn, the better. As you learn different dances, you will have your own preferences about which ones you like best. Go for it!

I have to say... if you love dancing, than any kind of dancing is appropriate for a man. You just have to be comfortable enough with yourself to go for it. Salsa is wonderful. Lots of hip movements. I love watching men dance the salsa, hip hop.... heck any kind of dance. Just do what you want to do as long as you are comfortable with it.

I think you would really like swing, with all the variations including linde, Charleston, Balboa, "jitterbug", East coast, and West coast. You can dance swing to the exclusion of all other kinds of dance.

If you want a good aerobic workout, why not polka and Viennese waltz?
