I told my ballet teachers that I hated competing so much that I had seriously asked for advice on how to break or badly sprain my ankle to get out of an upcoming performance. Now they hate me. They said "be a quitter and pull out, but you'll never become a professional dancer!" I didn't hurt myself in the end and realize now just how stressed I was.

They treat me badly in class now. I am 17 and on a pre-pro dance program. I am 5'7" and 115 with a med-lg bone frame. The teachers keep making quirks about my being overweight and I must be a closet eater and I am jello etc., One even said, "doing pointe at your hefty weight, you're bound to hurt yourself anyways!"
but I am frustrated because no docs or nutritionists will help me to lose weight because they say I'm low-normal weight for my height.... They don't understand that I can get kicked out for being too heavy. I'm the heaviest one in my class and we are weighed publicly. I am so stressed out. I don't know what to do.

As a man, I find it extremely difficult to learn new moves in partner dances.
All women have to do is dance with men who are better than they are, and they learn new moves!
I can dance with a woman who is better than I am, but she just gets bored because I'm expected to lead everything!

I'm in my fifth semester of Salsa but you'd swear I hadn't finished my second. I sit and watch good dancers but they move too fast for me to see what they do.
I know the best answer is to find a steady partner, but it's not like those just fall out of the sky: I've been looking for one all through college, in vain.

HOW CAN MEN LEARN NEW MOVES IF WE'RE ALREADY SUPPOSED TO KNOW THEM ALL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I am pretty new to pointe shoes..
When I put one hand inside the shoe against the inside of the platform and another hand out side with my fingers against the platform.. I can feel it on the inside if I push the platform gently with my fingers on the outside.. For some reason I thought the platform was more stiff than that.. they are new shoes. Any help from experienced people?

Were there any dances used at balls and such, during the nineteenth century, that involved changing partners?

Is it me or are you sick of the gay professional dancers and that one irritating judge. Hey I am gay but those fem guys that outdance their partners are giving us a bad name! Then if that is not bad enough, we have that Bruno to deal with. We enjoy watching the straight male celebs dance but man we actually turn off those fag guys (and we are in a gay bar watching)! Their movements truly make us ill. A guy should compliment a girl when dancing, not overdo it and overdance it. That is why the winners have been straight males!

I am a senior psychology major, and I am looking for an internship that I need to do this year. I am also a dancer, and I know there is a field of dance therapy. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who can tell me more about it. Have you ever taken dance therapy, or are you a dance therapist? Or do you know how I might find an internship in this field?

My basketball coach is sending me to extra curricular ballet lessons to learn more flexibility and balance, ugh!!!

What kind of things do guys do in ballet classes? Presumably it's different to what girls do. Is it just basically stretching and stuff. And what do guys normally wear?

I've been out of dance for 4 years, I'm 14 and I'm rejoining. I posted a question like this not long ago, but i still can't decide!!! My teacher doesn't know which class to put me in...beginners, or something more advanced since I've already had 8 years experience. I had fun in the beginners class even though I knew everything, and I think it will help me with my technique, but my parents think I will eventually get bored. This class only has ballet and jazz. The more advanced class was more of a challenge and I didn't have as much fun....but this class has ballet, jazz and TAP. I feel like I have to decide between having fun and taking a challenge. Any suggestions on what to do?
