They are stepping because their mothers are making them. I want them to do their best because they want to do it. Any suggestions?

first of all, they need to learn how to have pride in themselves. Teach them that, then the rest will come naturally. Good luck!

I have taught a lot of unmotivated students. I find if I can connect with their interests, they do better. That means listening to what they are saying.
Don't expect miracles since some students just don't care. In my case many were there just to socialize with friends and/or eat the free lunch.

Motivation comes from within. You can set up a situation where they see the benefits they get, but only they can take the final step

ask them to fill out a survey[ this survey should ask them what they like to do, want to do, what they want to learn, sports, what talents they have and talents or skills they want to learn.] then check out their answers and devise some programs covering their answers ........i think this will give them more self esteem and more sure of themselves...that you respect their thoughts and took their ideas and used them for a program...........[ students will feel nervous if asked to voice them in front of others] and you might not get a clear view of these questions...........so i think a survey will be better for all.............good luck

Have a time to listen to their hearts desires. Once you determined already what is it that they really want, gear them up to fullfill it, and always say encouraging words to them. And you must let them feel that you believe in them...that you aspire also for their success.....
