- For over 50 years since 1949, on the night marking the anniversary of Edgar Allan Poe's birth, a mysterious man-in-black has entered the cemetery where the master of the macabre lies buried, and, making his way through the dark shadows to Poe's grave, he places a partial bottle of expensive French cognac and three blood-red roses there, presumably as tokens of admiration and in tribute to the great author. This ritual completed, he then slips away into the night as quietly and as mysteriously as he came.
- The true meaning of the Poe Toaster's ritual and exactly what message is implied by the items left behind remains unexplained: the meaning of the French cognac is not completely clear as references to cognac did not appear as a prominent feature in Poe's works.

I love his novels. Lot of gore plenty of dead bodies, but it is just way he writes about it, is sheer poetry.

Can you give any internet links to books by Georgette Heyer (except "The Black Moth") or Victoria Holt?

Suggest any really good book by Victoria Holt.

Among these two books by Georgette Heyer- "Cousin Kate" and "Cotillion", which is better?

I tend to write these (or did write these) script/short story-stories. It goes paragraph, then dialouge, paragraph then dialouge. Some might call it a script but I don't think it really is. This why I like to call it and a script/short story. It's kind of in between. Their usually about 20 something pages long.

Now is this something publisher would take would take?

Is HHGTG simply an adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz?"

I can spot many elements that seem parallel. The "yellow brick road" translates into the startship "Heart of Gold", for example.

The Tin Man morphs into "Marvin the Paranoid Android" (He's not looking for a heart, he just want to get replacements for the diodes down his left side...)

Aurthur dent plays Dorothy's role (just wants to go home)

Trillian is the opposite of the scarecrow. She's got a degree in Astrophysics, but can't find a job. (she was "on the dole" on Earth)

Of course Zaphod also plays the part of the scarecrow. He seeks knowkledge about the true ruler of the galaxy.

Does anyone see any other parallels to OZ?

In HP7 ch. 10 "Kreacher's tale" told Kreacher, at Regulus drank the potion in the basin so that Kreacher could switch the fake locket with the real one and go home. Regulus got dragged underwater by the inferies and died, which was witnessed by Kreacher. But how did the basin get filled with potion again afterwards? 'Cause When Dumbledore and Harry came to the cave the basin was filled up again! (Remember A: the first time Kreacher went to the cave with Voldemort it was the Dark Lord himself who refilled it; B. Voldemort did not realise at all that the locket was taken until shortly before the Battle of Hogward, so he could not have been there.

I could not find any explanation. Can anyone help me?

I don't generally count myself as obsessed. I try not to be.

But lately I started writing fanfiction. As part of a writing exercise, nothing more. And partly because I had a scene that I had to get on paper...

But this makes me a bit of a hypocrite. I despised fanfiction as stupid before. But I really like having people hanging on my every word, when I have the power to entrap them in my work, to draw them in and keep them spellbound while I weave stories for them.

I should probably work on my own stuff, and think about publishing later on, and forsake writing fanfics...

What are your thoughts? Is it stupid? Obsessed? Or is there something to be gained from it? I guess I'm just struggling with the hypocrisy part...

Bloom

Prologue: Remember

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A tall figure watched the moonlight reflect onto the pale water of the royal garden's pond. Stars dotted the sky, making everything seem bright even when it was the middle of the night.
His messy raven black hair needed to be cut, his deep emerald green eyes full of depression. He is dressed in a simple dark blue tunic that was thin, yet cool in the spring breeze. His dark brown pants are worn from use, and have been stitched up in some areas.
Even if he looked grubby at the moment, he used to be part of the royal order of knights for the kingdom he lives in. Not anymore..those days were just a faded memory..
'..Just like him. Just like Mizuki..'Samaru murmured sadly, gripping his hands into fists.
I have not written fiction for a few years because I have been at university. Now, I have a little more time, and I have been working on a story (which will probably become a short novel) for several months.
I am almost obsessed with my characters. I think about them a lot – their thoughts, their motivations, their joys, their sorrows. My characters fascinate me in the same way people in real life fascinate me, and they seem to exist in the world as strongly as they exist in my head.
I do not consider myself crazy. Can any other writers elate to my obsession?
