I loved that book when I was younger. I loved *Harriet the Spy* and *A Summer to Die,* too. What are some other good pre-teen/teen books you remember liking?

If it's not a site that discusses all sorts of books, I'd prefer one geared towards the classics.

Also please don't tell me to do a search for them, because I have and I never have any luck with internet searches.

Thanks! :D

I would like to know why, when Harry used the Resurrection Stone, did Albus Dumbledore not accompany him too. If you know, or have an assumption, please let me know.

Over the last week I've probably read 20 books (alright- 10) and I've exhausted the Library on books I know are good.

My Favorite books: (excluding the broader subjects, I have all read the entire selection of these in the Library- most recently)
The Sevenwater's Trilogy
The Otori Trilogy (er- I guess it is a quartet now)
Anything by Orson Scott Card (I like his stuff so much my dad has forbidden me to check out his books- yeah right)
Les Miserables
Eragon
Some Non-fiction (relgious books, philosophy books, self-help books, ext.)
Terry Brooks is Ok
Alanna's serries is ok, but a bit simple
I'm trying to mentally walk through the library- and it isn't working. Alright- I know this seems very fantasy focused- but I don't want books that are just that. I love books with an underlying love plot- but that it isn't the plot of the book. I hate too-happy of endings (like Harry Potter- He was suposed to AHHH! *I'm sure anyone reading this has either read it or doesn't care*)

I just finished reading "The Moon is Down" by John Steinback. His writing is amazing and as I analyze through the book "the flies have conquered the flypaper" catches me. I searched it online and reporters from newspapers talk about Iraq and what not. But what does the phrase really mean?

Thanks!

I have worked all of my life and have also loved to read. I'm in my mid forties and I'll be able to retire in a few years. I really want to be a writer because I belives I have several stories inside me. Most authors I read about are young (20s and 30s) and have achieved prominence in their fields. They still have many years ahead ofr them to create more fine work. I'm getting older and feel if I start it'll take me
awhile to learn stuff and to get published. People tell me this is a pipe dream and say it'll take me a years to perfect my writing. Is there such a thing as TOO OLD to begin a career as a fiction writer? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

i'm writing a novel & i was curious wat the general publis thought of the idea 4 the book. CRITISMS ENCOURAGED!

the main characters r: Princess Carla & Counselor Yazmin
Carla is 13 & she has 2 marry & b queen by her 15th b-day, her parents r dead & Yazmin is in charge of the country. the country is at war & has been since Carla's g-pa was on the throne. Yazmin is a sorceress & so is her ex-husband Daldrin who is ruling the country that they r war w/.
Lord Frederick (Yazmin doesn't like him) is courting Carla & he is next in line 4 the throne. after he gains her trust, he betrays her & murders her in the middle of the woods somewhere.

In the second book Sandrielene ( a healer) has a son, Zach, who saves Carla & his mom heals her. She ends up fallin 4 him & marrying him.
Frederick kills Daldrin in a final showdown & Yazmin banishes him 4 murder & every1 lives happily ever after.

PS. I'm also lookin 4 a title name 4 the book, suggetions?

Is it a lack of credibility, insecurity, or just ego--which drives some writers to believe that the only way we can be taken seriously enough with their writing--we all have to traditionally publish our works?
