The ending is always really tough. You can do a lot of things.

1. Write the ending first. Think of your characters and what their goals are. (E.g. a vampire that wants to become human.) Do you want that to happen? How will it happen? (If you have trouble with the 'how' part, just think of new ideas - maybe he has to fall in love, or kill 100 humans, or find the Good Witch of the West to turn him into one.)

2. If you like mythology, base your story around a real myth and then you have an 'ending' which you can modify to suit yourself.

3. Base your story on a real-life event, but embellish it a lot. Whenever you're telling cool stories about your life to your friends, aren't you tempted to add details that would make it "better"?

4. Ask your friends how they want the story to end (I love this way - it's so lazy!). Then take one of their suggestions, and add your own twists to it.

5. If you have trouble writing the middle part of the story (e.g. you never get far enough to even THINK about the ending), then maybe at the very beginning, you should write an outline of the main events you want to happen in the story so you know where it is going.

I suggest reading "Grendel" (by John Gardner). It isn't a typical fantasy story and the ending isn't typical either.

First of all, a book that you produce should connect to your soul and how you interpret the world and how you think others should as well.

I, for one, think a story about a dog dealing with the troubles of life would be great. It would show the world in a different perspective and that humans and animals can co-exist and really, truly, do have a real life connection. A part of the story that you should include would be the main character going through the trials and tribulations of getting spayed/nutered. This can sometimes be a very tough time for animals; as they question their existance in the world.

Wouldn't you want to read a book about a dog?
I think so.

Fantasy?
Oh, yes.

Fiction?
Even more so.

Thank you for your time. I wish you the best of luck and I hope the words flow from you pen onto your paper like the grand waters of Niagra Falls into the hearts of those around you.

When I write I usually think about books that I've read and what made them work. About your unfinished endings - I think that it depends on your character and your story. If its a fantasy then you can really do whatever you like. Kill the characters, put a twist in in, leave them a cliffhanger ending or finish it with a satisfactory ending. After finishing these books usually you feel as if you should change something about it but a better way to learn is to complete something, read it over and the decide how you can make your next one better. Its good to have a plan of ideas jotted down as that can combat writers block and I find it much easier to follow a structure I've thought about in my head first. Play it out and dont hesitate to experiment. happy writing.

Before I got serious about writing, I began over 100 books but never finished one.

It is a lot harder to complete a book than most people think. I can't tell you how many people come up to me and say something like, "I'd write a book if I had the time" or "I'll write a book someday."

Why not today?

The truth is, you are the only one who is going to be able to convince yourself to finish one of the books you started. And the only way to do that is put your butt in the chair and write. No one can come up with the ending for you, no one is going to write it for you. Either you want to finish a book--and find the time and energy to do it--or you don't.

I wish you a lot of luck and hope you find the answers you're seeking.

How about planning the ending first next time? If I were u I would write about what you know yet give it a twist. It helpes to know the main type of audience u wish to reach.

Write the story of your life where you end up king of the world. Just change the species & names of the chanrecters and substitute places (school, work, home) with other planets.

I agree with saints: it's kind of allowed plagriasm when you take other people's ideas. Make up your own! You'll feel that much better for it. And so will we, if your book becomes the next greatest thing.
