Especially since the people who think so have hardly ever read a classic. I find classics very interesting and most modern books very boring, but almost everyone else has the opposite opinion.

If you know of any little known authors/books that you think a teenage girl who is relatively intelligent and loves to read would like, feel free to post. If you could also tell what it's about that would be great. Some examples of books I've read/am reading:
Pendragon series
Lord of the Rings
Eragon, Eldest
Harry Potter series
Series of Unfortunate Events
Dragonlance Chronicles
Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series(by Tad Williams)
Rhapsody, Prophecy, Destiny(three books in a series by Elizabeth Haydon)
Inkheart, Inkspell

I read at a college level, and I am a female in high school. I love all kinds of books, and I am open to anything. I read super fast, so any length is fine with me.

Do any of you have any tips on becoming an accomplished authour? Either that or do you know any websites on how to write books. I already finished writing a book manuscript but now I'm kinda nervous on sending it to a book publisher. So far I have read it to my friends and family and they LOVED it. And they were serious. I'm writing a (clean-cut) comedy and it sent them cracking-up. (I saw some tears on one of my friends.) This would be great. Thanks.

Ok the thing is what should a newbie writer do after finishing writing a book, as they dont have any contacts for getting it to a publisher, how can they reach a publisher and what amount of pages should be sent, the entire book or certain pages highlighting.

Well how can a movie script thats brilliant be sent to a reputed director, or is there no option than to send it to a publisher and wait to get rejected cause it might not seem his type

I prefer those that don't involve vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc... Ghosts, and the unseen would suit me.

I just saw the movie about Truman Capote and I wonder if this work is still considered to be an important literary piece. It seemed from the film that there is a fine line between creating a new hybrid form and just sloppy, lazy reporting.

And anyway, have all his writings, from Other Voices Other Rooms to Breakfast at Tiffany's all ended up on the trash heap of glitterati conceits?

I read this book about 30 years ago. It had something to do with a few boys who discovered an "old" club that some other boys had founded years earlier. They had to follow certain tasks to find out how to join the club. They made spears out of broom handles, made masks and some other stuff I can't quite remember. It had instructions on how to make these things as well. It turns out in the end that the boys father's were the original founders of the club. It was about a third grade reading level, maybe about 25-30 pages long. I got it from the school's book fair. That's about all I remember.

been thinking of my days at Waterstone's book shops which are soon coming to an end as my branch is being shut down.
What do you think of booksellers, ever had weird ones. or weird customers who ask for weird things from you as a seller.
What is it about books that makes th whole industry so peculiar?

Just placed Of Mice and Men and The Complete Short Stories by Ambrose Bierce in my Shopping Cart on Amazon. Shipping in total is about $8.. which is the cost of another entire book.. the same $8 could get another book, which would also get rid of the shipping costs... Any ideas? Want to read something that's really worth it
