I remember reading a fiction book awhile ago, but I'm not sure of the author or title. It was about a girl who winds up on an island(I forget how she got there), but I know there was something like a black hole there or something like a black shadowy figure, and somehow she winds up in this kingdom(I think it was underground) run by human size owls. The king owl had a daughter who was very sick but I think she was supposed to have something major happening in her life soon because she was either a teenager or a baby. I also remember the girl had something with her(I think it was a candy or drink of some sort) that the king owl loved & it made the daughter owl better so the king owl said she could come back anytime she wants as long as she brought whatever it was to eat with her. sorry, i dont remember much, just a girl and a black hole on an island that had a colony of lifesized talking owls with a king and princess owl. If anyone can help it would help a lot. Thanks so much. (:

I'm into the whole organized crime thing, and looking for a good fiction mafia book based in the 20's-50's era. Nothing close to recent. If anybody has any recommendations, then that'd be great! Thanks.

It's hard to explain better. The title of the book is a phrase and in the book the phrase is used severa ways, putting a comma in different places showing how the placement of a comma really matters in english sentences. I saw this book a Borders several months ago and now I can't find it since I neglected to get the title and/or the author.

Thanks.

I checked my library and looks like there are many different versions of the book, or many books with same title.
Please, if you're familiar with the 'main one' please share author and date of book.

Many thanks

Hey all,
Just a quick question, does anyone know what the deal is with getting English copies of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' in Europe?
Cause i'm from NZ, but will probably be in Greece on July 21st for the launch. So was wondering whether book sellers will be selling copies in English as well as....well, Greek? :)
Cause, trust me, i'm SO amazingly excited about getting my hands on it, I will probably be willing to fly back to the UK for the day! :)
For would pre-ordering it on Amazon and getting it shipped be a better idea??
Thanks if you can help!

Kim

As a small press publisher, we know that many readers DO judge a book by its cover. Sometimes people buy books just because of the cover, and never read them! But a lot goes into a book purchase, so we're interested in your thoughts on what it takes to get you to buy a book. How important are book reviews? How important is name power? Do you care if the book is on Oprah's list? How much of a factor is price? Share your thoughts.

And if you are interested, we are also holding a separate survey to discuss books, and you could win some free ones.

who agrees that so often writers want you to be able to relate directly to a character and they want that character to appeal to such a wide range of people, that their main character often has little to no personality whatsoever. No quirks, no rawness, no spark! Often when reading a novel, I wish the author wrote about a charcter on the side instead of the main one, because he/she is more 'out there,' more interesting.

I never read this book, but a teacher of mine in college read the ending (or at least I think it was the ending). The book had a sled dog in it and he was in a race and he died at the very end, either before he crossed the finish line or right after. If I remember correctly, his heart gave out or exploded or something. Can anyone help me with the name of that book? Thanks!
