I like books, history, and biography, and I'd like to read a good book about Napolean. But most are too long, too scholarly, too much. I want a "quick read". Any suggestions?

It's not that I haven't found a few small publishers to send my manuscript, etc to....but I do notice that SOO many require an agent!! In fact, the very ones I want to see my manuscript require an agent! Am I forced to give in and find one??

Or, am I doing the better thing by sending my manuscript to smaller publishing houses anyway?

I have been using Predators and Editors...but I also check Amazon for best sellers in my category..and often find a publisher that's not even listed on P&E.

If I'm only going to get 6 to 8 percent of the retail price on trade paperbacks, 6 to 10 percent of the retail price on mass market paperbacks, and 10 to 15 percent of the retail price on hardcover....what will those figures lower to if I have to have an agent??

WOW, this has been hard!!

for whoe ever has read the wonderful book of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper lee, i need 10 point summary. i cant honestly figure out points to summarize the whole book i have never been able to do so specially with such a powerfull book as this one.

any 1? give me 10 major events that happened in the book that gives a summary. an event and y it was significant.

the first one i think is

When Jem and Scout met Dill!!! this was important becuase dill was a very provocative individual who had an influence to jems actions, such as the time he dared jem to bring out Bo Radley.

i think that is very important and should be the first but i always sucked at giving a small summary for a huge book. any one? just 10 points please.
ill vote u as best answer. yes this is my homework but i dotn want u to think im getting others to do it for me i juss cant sum this book up like im asked so im asking for help thank you.

Considering that everyone who is answering this question has read all 6 books. Please be detailed and precise. The next title is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. Please stay on topic, and I will report any offensive material towards people who like the series. :D

I happen to think so. And no, I did not see the movies first and then read the books. Pete Jackson and Co. did a fine job of paring the books down to the essentials. Most of the changes they made improved the story, except for giving Faramir brown hair when he was supposed to have black hair.
